I am planning to go for Grad school in Electrical Engineering coming fall (09).  I am in dillema in choosing right university. I don't know if there are any affordable colleges if I dont qualify for any graduate assistanship or some sort of financial aid. So I was hoping if anybody could suggest me some affordable Grad School in Electrical Engineering where even if I  couldn't get Graduate Assistanship it will not be tough for me to pay TUITION on my own.

Based on ur posts and expectations, Lamar Univ is the most suitable one for you.

Otherwise, with so many resources in the web you could have shortlisted some univs suitable to you and then asked for choosing the one based on your requirements (should be explicit).

stochastic, i like your answer but I dont' think Electrical Enginering is that easy in Lamar too , lol

nate, I suggest you to invest some time in "googling" universities of your choice and have a short list. Else publish your GPA, Toefl score, GRE score and experience. I might be able to help you.

Thanx stochastic,  mech, and  F22. I appreciate your help. mech  My GPA is 2.97  and I think I dont need TOEFL since I did my undergraduate from US university and about GRE I am taking real test soon but the practice test I did from ETS website is I got 780 on MATH and 440 on Verbal. So I dont know I might have to prepare more for Verbal section. Thanx

nate,

Based on my experience, my friend's experiences, nepalese population, chances of assistantship availability, university setting , weather, off campus jobs (only if you are legal :), and your credentials, I recommend following universities in order

UTA (www.UTA.edu

Mississippi  State University www.msstate.edu/

ODU, Virginia www.odu.edu

Southern Illinois University, Carbondale (www.siuc.edu  )

louisiana tech university  ( www.latech.edu )

But if you want to graduate early and make some money, don't think anything else apply to WWW.LAMAR.EDU . Most graduate in 4 semesters (including summer) and get job in Houston or Dallas. It does not matter how long you spend in graduate school, what it matters is the money you make and the job you get after graduation for your career.

If you believe in your credentials and can get REAL good recommendation letters, try  www.ncsu.edu (Close to Cisco, IBM and many other companies), www.vatech.edu (lot of career and research opportunites), iowa state universtiy (www.iastate.edu (?) )

Good Luck with your applications.

Thanx Mech, I appreciate your help. I  was thinking about those universities too and Lamar is one of them. But my concern is how competitive are those universities for Graduate Assistanship? and I don't have legal problem coz I am still in OPT but only concern will be financial  problem..
