UNN opposes Nepal government’s move to sponsor Mr. Girija Prasad Koirala’s healthcare costs at the burden of the Nepalese taxpayers.  Recently, Koirala was airlifted to Singapore for respiratory problems.  Koirala, who is in his late eighties, was accompanied by his German daughter, incumbent Deputy Prime Minister of Nepalese Government, Sujata Koirala.  It has been reported that she spent more than Rs. 200,000 per day taxpayers’ money during her stay in Singapore.  Mr. Koirala has been the Prime Minister of Nepal four times and during his tenure, his government has been charged with massive corruption.  He is also linked to sideline the Nepalese monarchy by inking a deal with the then Nepalese terrorists to share power.  He mostly occupied the chair of the Prime Minister after 1990's movement, during which, the civil war started and his government was largely blamed for causing grave injustice to people, promoting the culture of corruption, nepotism and lawlessness.

Koirala was immediately followed by Maoist Chairman Prachanda to Singapore.  Media reported that Prachanda and Koirala had pre-planned to reach a deal in Singapore.  The whole Singapore episode was directed so that Koirala and Prachanda could share power. Media also reported that Koirala, a power hungry person, wants to become the president of Nepal and Prachanda, who was caught for lying to UN during PLA verification, wants to become the Prime Minister again.

UNN questions the funds that Koirala has been granted and also demands to disclose the source of Maoists’ and all Nepalese leaders’ income, including the source from where Prachanda was able to purchase an airline ticket.  Since most Nepalese leaders are living on taxpayers’ money even after the expiration of their tenure in office, UNN, on behalf of the Nepalese citizens, demands a full transparency of the government spending be made public for the people’s review.

I second the motion. Nepal Govt. needs tranparency. Just like here they should make their Tax Returns available to public.  And hold them accountable if there are any discrepancy.

'You guys are missing the point. It's not about transparency. If there was no transparency, none of us would know about it. What's happening is, MaKu Nepal is exercising his own discretion, like a dictator does,  in spending the money to revive the failing health of a very very old politician who was born in the early 20th century. In the future, the constituent assembly needs to vote on the legitimacy of any appropriation of fund including allocation of annual budget by an inclusive and well-planned budget/finance committee.
All in all, the legislative and executive structure of our country along with their division of roles and responsibilities seem so f'ked up or jpt at best.

`Don't forget the recent spending spree for the Copenhagen summit when more than three dozen government officials headed by MaKu just arrived back to the capital. It's like all the villagers of the whole village are attending the summit. Because the Nepal treasury is bearing most of the expenses and now they can include Copenhagen, Denmark as a country visited in their resumes, they all were so eager for the trip.
From now on only the officials critical for the personnel making speech from summit podium should be sent and their escorts should be exempted from the free rides. The treasury is being bilked from all possible directions just like a wounded buffalo is attacked by a ever-hungry clan of hyenas.
