Microsoft is like a drug dealer. At first they will give you a little for free, once you get used to it and possibly addicted to it to the point that you cant live without their product they will start charging you.

MS OFFICE 2010 is beta... you can use it along with MS office 2007, however, it's more of the same... a few tabs changed..
I don't know what 'safety' you are talking about. But you can download a beta version (valid until oct 2010 or so)..
I am using it (once in a while), 2007 is good enough.
