Visa issuance for Nepalese students from Kathmandu has been suspended for indefinite period, British Embassy in Kathmandu said on Sunday.
The embassy said 'temporary' halt on acceptance of visa applications will be applicable from Monday but has not mentioned anything about reopening it.
Under Tier 4 of the Points Based System, the number of students flying to UK from South Asian region had increased sharply in the last few months, putting pressure on the UK universities.
The statement issued however states that visitors who are making applications in other visa categories are unaffected by this announcement.
Currently, visa has been banned for students from Nepal and north India.
Additionally, those who have already made appointments at the visa application centres in Kathmandu to submit their Tier 4 visa applications from Feb1 onwards will have their appointments suspended until the UK Border Agency begins accepting Tier 4 visa applications again, and will then be given priority.
The embassy statement further reads, "The temporary suspension will allow the UK Border Agency to continue to scrutinise applications thoroughly and to manage the visa process efficiently for all the customers in Nepal." nepalnews.com |
