Whenever I read the news of honor killings in other countries, I wonder how one could kill own daughter/sister for one "mistake". Number of times, women were actually the victims from the rape. Yet, in the name of preserving the honor, they take their own loved one's lives. I used to feel good that it doesn't happen in our country; at least. But perhaps, we want to go even a step further and won't be in a rest until we see them committing suicide.

Yes, I mean to talk about 'Namrata Shrestha'. I guess, everyone agrees that she did a mistake and her image is tarnished forever. However, why do we want to kill her again and again. Why don't we let others leave peacefully and entertain ourselves from something else rather than from the sufferings of others. What all of you talibans want to do with her? Give her a death sentence by stoning? Is she the only celebrity who's sleeping around with other's husbands in Nepal? Do you follow the news of entertainment industry in Nepal? Find some news about celebrities like Rejina Uprety, Komal Oli, etc.

Have you never committed any mistakes and asked for pardons? Doesn't she deserve a second chance? Perhaps, we all get the blame for shrisha karki suicide. Do you think that she deserved to die just because of one stupid photograph?

The blame goes to everyone of us, who likes to take interviews like this:

and also to us who likes to follow the news more about Namrata than other cases such as 'sunita dhami' case

In this case, at first they tried to deny it from happening, refused to register the case; and when they didn't succeed, the rapists got the blessing from home minister. Shame on home minister and Nepali police. Not only this, I've read many other cases where the rapists never got followed up and got away with the law (Upendra Mahato's father). Just recently, police refused to register the case of sacrifice in Kapilvastu, Atleast, it hasn't shown in international media yet.

people are only rasing issues here that because of cases liike Namrata, Oli, Prety.... the new generation will start doing bang bang with other's husband and wives for vested interests....

Humans are strange... not like animals.. humans want sex all the times.. unlike animals looking for sex in particular season.... Budhha fkced many many girls.... and then he became wakka dikka.. then left to forest.. we all know that... this is the disease implanted by Nature in humans...

before have fought big wars for sex... we all know that.....

and for same matter people will write many many threads in sajha as well...

the example you are gave on honor killing, stoning, bla bla bla is absolutely irrelevant to Namrata's scandal. in her case, people are concerned and they are condemning such action as it is morally degrading. if we just let go such action,  we'll see more of it in future. teenagers and emerging artists take her as a role model and if her actions are justified and if teenagers and women get inspired to do such thing, then we'll downgrade ourselves one step closer to animal.  remember, it's not about namrata, it's about her action.

I agree she didn't did the proper thing, but why she has to face its consequences for all of her life.
We are
humans, we do mistakes in our life (knowingly or unknowingly), does that mean we have face its consequences for a whole life.  The best thing we can do from our mistake is "LEARN FROM IT and NEVER REPEAT IT AGAIN".

Why we never outcast PRAKASH OJHA, who had a sex with 3 minors.  SAPTAHIK, weekly magzine from Kantipur publication has a column for him "TALU MA AALU" We did not cry FOUL when he had less sentences and again back to MUSIC INDUSTRY. Dont u think more may also consider him as role model ?

What about DJ TANTRIK (
Kichaa Man Chitrakar), her partner in this episode. Do we really care where he is now?

May be some guys envy him that he had sex with that chwank girl, and may also consider him as role model too

-> No one is denying that what she did was bad. But do you want to give a death sentence for her?
Honor killing and stoning is exaggeration. Did you read in the news that mao taliban and other local people went to gherao the victim of Prakash Ojha's victim's house and threatened to bring her naked out of house? The analogy I presented is the norm of punishing the victim. In Namrata's case, it doesn't apply since she's not the victim I guess. But here's my question to you. Please tell me which one of Namrata's act we are deploring.
a) she had oral sex
b) she filmed it
c) the film was exposed
d) she slept with a married man

if we just let go such action,  we'll see more of it in future. teenagers and emerging artists take her as a role model and if her actions are justified and if teenagers and women get inspired to do such thing, then we'll downgrade ourselves one step closer to animal.  remember, it's not about namrata, it's about her action.
->I agree that she can no longer be a role model. But I don't think that she should give up her life and go to banbash. Since her profession is in entertainment industry, she has the right to work. Regarding teenagers following it, I think it should be a lesson for them. I don't think teenagers are so naive and dumb that they'll follow like her footstep. For what? To gain publicity? Well, Namrata was already famous before this event.

Since we live in western society here and our children will probably grow up here. We can't control our children's actions all the time. God let nothing happen. Scandals in school these days are not that rare. But I guess people deserve the second chance, and I don't think Namrata will ever rise again to the level she was once. But we should stop this bullying tradition.

Regarding my exaggeration, another extreme example of the talibanism by nepalese mobs can be found in mysansar.  Mobs in ratnapark stripped a woman naked and then beat her for committing adultery. Do we really need to wait till someone stone? We already read the news of a child sacrifice last week.

khoikkhoik, I'm with you.

Whatever ya'll say I agree. One thing I know, it wasn't taken from a mobile phone, it was taken by a actual video camera.(please look at all the videos), if it was a mobile phone, I have never seen a mobile phone that can be put on a tripod (correct me if I am wrong).

No matter what???? she made a home-made porn video. (hot nepali porn, new Pamela Anderson)

2nd chance my A**. if you commit a crime and you are convicted, you get punished not set free.
A crime is a crime no matter what you do, a saying in Nepali. if you steal a dollar you are thief, if you steal a nickle you are still a thief.

She can whatever she want's it's her wish and her life, but once you are a public figure, you are responsible for your action's, your action's will affect thousands of people.

ARAHAT, seems like you are girl, lemme tell you one thing TIGER WOODS baby !!!!!!! he was caught having a relationship beyond his marriage and look what happened, the media and the people made a example of him. Baby there are rules and regulations of a society. If you can't live within a society than live in a jungle or form your own community....

This girl needs to grow up and learn, if she was miss nobody than it's nobody's business but she is a celebrity in nepal, she is a role model for so many teenage girls, you are telling me now she should be left alone, no way!!!! first of all she needs to apologize publicly and not make mockery of people and say it's non of your business... she has no remorse for what she did..

Again, that porn video was made with a real camcorder not a phone... Tantrik says himself, "Baby shall I put the camera on the Tripod" anyhow the we now her boobs are not fake but real !!!!!

My 2 cents.......

Interesting post Arahat, and very aptly put. This should be a lesson or two for most individuals here who often think an art of posting is too cavalier to be mused upon. Although I have re-read your analysis and am struggling to refute it, I still want to go ahead and put forth my two pennies. Having said that, I also want to bring to your attention that I am neither a sexist nor a male chauvinist, and I am certainly not someone like Rodiohead (refer to the existing post here that refers to Namrata Shrestha) who takes pleasure in defamation.

I did not know who Namrata Shrestha was until that infamous sex scandal hit ‘cyberia’, and I am completely unaware about her upbringing and lifestyle. Taken that into consideration, and assuming she thought ‘having sex with a married man’ was cool, she should have been ready encounter the criticism that would ensue, had the video suddenly surfaced in the internet. But it does not seem like in this case, it seems she is not at ease with the outcome, which means she was aware that her act was unethical and which now raises a question mark over her integrity.

Infidelity is considered a serious social offense even in radically outgoing societies in the west. Agreed, it was not an infidelity on her part, but she was a major accomplice. And for heaven’s sake we are Nepalese regardless. If we chose to live among the society where we know flags are raised, we might just as well act inhibited or do something behind closed doors and make darn sure none of our acts are exposed.

Namrata clearly does not have the lifestyle of Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian, she is just a poor imitation of those individuals who struggles to make balance between east and west. Again, sleeping with your lover is cool, even accidental exposure of that video could be condoned, but sleeping with a married man and have the video playing in every possible PCs is ‘definitely not cool’. I have nothing against her, but at the same time I will not consider as an ambassador of ‘whateveritis’.

if you commit a crime and you are convicted, you get punished not set free.
-> what punishment do you want to give for this "crime"?
Are we more concerned about punishing for this "crime" rather than the culprits for sacrifice or rapes such as sunita dhami, or the big names like Upendra Mahato's father?

She can whatever she want's it's her wish and her life, but once you are a public figure, you are responsible for your action's, your action's will affect thousands of people.
->I agree.

Baby there are rules and regulations of a society. If you can't live within a society than live in a jungle or form your own community....
-> Please tell me the rules that you've made. Does it apply to only one specific person or it applies to everyone? Does one needs to make the video to prove it or some other evidence will also work for this "crime"?

Let me clarify also that I'm not a girl. I'm no longer her fan as well. I'm only against getting at entertained others' miseries. What do you want her to do? Everybody deserves the second chance. Even the judge gives milder sentence for the convicts with no criminal background. I again reiterate what she did was bad, but are you all asking for her to commit suicide or dream of beating her naked like a bunch of guys did in mysansar's news?

I don't want to beat her up or parade her naked in the streets of KTM (which would be cool though hahaha j/k)

No seriously, 2nd chance to live a normal life = Yes
2nd chance to be a public figure = No

Like I said before, it's her life how she wants to live and persue her  life but IMHO she is done as a public figure, we don't want our daughters idoling her and making more homemade Porno....

It's time to say Bye to Bye to Namrata from the limelight and Public eye's.. it's time for her to go and dance in DanceBar or make more porno for us to watch her do all the carnal acts and become the first Jeena Jamison of Nepal....

All I am saying is, give her 2nd chance to live a normal life not a 2nd chance to live like a celebrity... she has missed her chance now..... Some people don't even get a single chance and you want us to give her 2nd chance .... it's a BIG HELLLLLLLL NOOOOOO ....

Peace
my 3cents...

I agree with you Chor. We'd rather have our celebrity as someone like the child molester Prakash Ojha  or someone who's doing worst behind the curtains than someone as Namrata. Thanks for making the first sentence in your comment and reassuring my belief in having some talibans among us.

Look at the derogatory comments. As I said, we're here in US. God forbids anything happens. But this is an open society and if someone is your family accidentally happens to be in this situations like this, will you really be aiming to claim for the first nepalese honor killing?
