Basically , they would check if your H1b is genuine and if you are currently on a job . So few things you may want to include would be :

Required Documents
  • H1b Approval: I797
  • Labor Approval
  • Recent pay stubs
  • Job verification letter from your employer
Not required but you may think of including these:
  • Current Resume
  • Previous i20s
  • last years W2
That should be all , and before you go to KTM don't forget to write to the consulate and ask if your record has been updated in PIMS. This will help you get your stamping done right away , else they will make you wait for a week or so. I have heard cases where people waited for 3-4 weeks just because their h1b approval was not updated on PIMS.

consulate Email: ConsKtm@state.gov

Good Luck...

hi neptey,

i did have to go for stamping last year in early spring and it went smooth so far.  the consular was a young guy, may be in his late 20s and all he talked to me was about the college football season and other random stuffs about where i live, why i am not married (may be most H1Bs in nepal also file for dependent as well ) , so i didnot feel like it was a visa interview.  But while i was waiting for my turn to be interviewed, i heard other consulars asking about the company background, the clients (if you are contractor) , the person you report to, his/her contact details etc .

and the documents I had with me were as follows ;

the H1B petition approval notice  and the copy of the filed petition ;

all the copies of the I-20 i held while in US  and OPT   ;

Offer Letter from my employer ;

All my Pay Stubs  and Bank statement for last 6 months ;

My tax returns for last two years ;

My credentials (Degrees, any professional certificates  etc ) ;

Some company documents and pictures ( to prove that it exists )

i think thats pretty much they ask for, but it varies by individual , so please check the standard requirements that they do have in the Embassy website for H1B visa and do accordingly  .

One additional suggestion : Once you are approved for H1B visa,  please go to the Foriegn Employment Division  at Baneshwor and get a "Work Permit " they call it "shram anumati patra" , and that will save u from the trouble at the airport in Nepal, otherwise u might have to spend some bucks .

Wish U all the best !

I recently did H1B stamping (late April). This was my second stamping with the same company, so did not get many questions. I suggest filling the new DS 160 form here. You may want to check the state department website for the  interview wait time and plan accordingly.
