In an interview with the latest edition of Greatway magazine, Chairman Pushpa Kamal of Unified Maoists’ Party in an interesting disclosure claims that late Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala was hand-in-glove in all of the military operations carried out by the Peoples’ Liberation Army during the fag end of the so-called peoples’ revolt.
The magazine, according to Kantipur National Daily, is close to Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai panel in the Unified Maoists’ Party.
How will the Nepali Congress leaders react to this disclosure made more than a year and half after Koirala’s death will be no less interesting? Lethargic NC leaders may not respond at all, careful NC watchers claim.
“After the February 1, 2005 move of King Gyanendra, I used to have contacts with Koirala on a daily basis,” claims Dahal in the interview.
He adds, “He used to provide us counsels to make our military operations more effective. I also used to take his “words of wisdom” and plan our attacks accordingly.”
Chairman Dahal’s grand disclosure does make it also clear, by implication, that late Koirala was in close coordination with the Indian intelligence agency, RAW, which may have brought him closer to the Maoists. Indeed, Koirala ever served the Indian regime. The RAW connection was an added political advantage for him, analysts presume.
By the way, intelligent brains also opine that this disclosure does also in many more ways than one implies that Koirala longed to become the first Nepal President through the clandestine support of RAW and the Maoists then residing in New Delhi under Indian protection.
By extension, the Prachanda-Koirala secret attachment could also mean that late Koirala knew of King Birendra’s murder details.
This would further mean that late Koirala must have remained instrumental in sidelining King Gyanendra from the throne under the compelling instructions of the RAW. All put together, late Koirala, the Maoists party and the RAW may have in a combined manner engineered the destruction of the Nepali monarchy.
At a later stage, Prachanda ditched late Koirala from becoming first Nepal President. This is what he deserved.
So “the Grand design” may have been the catchword invented by Koirala himself which he used to utter as and when he was in trouble inside his own party.
Or he could have used this design theory to malign the monarchy. Late Koirala’s greed for power now stands exposed. Prachanda in saying so has abundantly exposed himself as well.
Dahal in the same interview also claims that the opposing camp led by nationalist leader Mohan Baidya ‘Kiran’ was a team comprising of power lust, selfish and full of opportunists people.
