This student, Dr. Bhattarai, is now leading our nation. In almost 3 months he has done many things that have given a ray of hope to the Nepali citizens. Even when he was a finance minister, his term was hailed as one of the most successful term in Nepali politics.

However, this student who never took the compromised path in his studies, clearly knows politics comes with many compromises. He probably learned that when he was almost ousted by the party chief Prachanda. Since then, he seems to have realized that if he wants to lead the nation, then he has to strike deals with the ones supporting him. The problem is that those compromises could amount to serious blow to Nepal, the peace process and his legitimacy as the best leader Nepal has seen.

Riding a Nepal made Mustang and talking to public every week in Radio are PR moves that certainly gained him a good fan following. But if Dr. Bhattarai wants to continue the momentum and instill legitimacy to his party, which public still look at with wildering doubts,  then he has to take actions that could be hailed offensive by his own party, by India, but will be beneficial for the country and its people. He has a chance to climb up in the nascent history of new Nepal, unless he choses the easiest path and settles with “first division” or merely passing the exam.

The BIPPA agreement with India was a necessity but not the number one requirement for the nation. He did this deal to gain confidence for himself and his party from India; after seeing what happened to our past kings (from Tribhuvan, Mahendra, Virendra to Gyanendra) and how influencial Koirala was, it would be stupidity to not respect the power. But the priority that the deal got (within 2 months of premiership) does cast many doubts on his own priority. Could he have negotiated more with the deal? Who knows, but lets move on.

All in all, if Dr. Bhattarai wants to garnish all the support then he has prove the Maoists are legitimate political party. They cannot have a parallel army and a rogue gang (YCL) when they themselves are in power. They cannot be asking President to pardon a criminal that the supreme court has ruled as guilty already.

There are other countless things you can put forth, but the bottom line is that simple PR maneuvers aren’t going to take our new leader for a long run. Nepali public are called bhedos, but they aren’t that stupid either. Right now, all our hopes are with him, it won’t be too long before the tides change and we put him in the same basket as every other politicians out there.

Phd in terrorizing people, killing innocents 15000 people....here is one heading of his PhD Terrortation ..hyaakk..thuuuukkaaa...tero mukhaima

Ujjan Kumar Shrestha

Ujjan Kumar Shrestha
Jhapa
Ujjan Kumar Shrestha was shot to death by Balkrishna Dhungel and his cohorts due to some family feud over charges of pregnancy and inter-caste marriage. On 24 June 1998, he had gone towards Ramechhap to purchase goods when out of the blue appeared Dhungel and his gang. They encircled Shrestha and then Dhungel shot him at the head and later threw his corpse at Likhu River. Later, they even killed Ujjan’s elder brother, Ganesh when he filed an FIR against them. Ganesh’s death was so shocking to his daughter that she committed suicide at a later date.
30 June 1998
Yes
Okhaldhunga District court on 10 May 2004 convicted Balkrishna Dhungel as the murderer and sentenced him to life imprisonment and confiscation of property. Challenging this decision, Dhungel filed an appeal at Rajbiraj Appellate Court. The court on 25 June 2006 repealed the decision of the district court and exonerating Dhungel from the crime released him from the prison. Ujjan’s family filed an appeal at the Supreme Court against the decision of Appellate Court. The Supreme Court on 3 January 2010 upheld the decision of the district court and convicted Dhungel for the murder and asked the police to arrest him and make him serve the remaining time in prison. After the police failed to arrest and incarcerate Dhungel and the government attempted to grant amnesty to Dhungel, victim’s family filed a writ requesting stay order on refraining pardon to Dhungel. The Court on 21 June 2011 clarified that there was no legal obstacle to incarcerate Dhungel.
In the early morning at around 4 a.m. on June 24, 1998, Ujjan Kumar Shrestha left his home to go to Ramechhap in order to buy some goods. Then, he never made it back. While he was walking through Khahare Dobhar which is at Tarkerabari Ward No. 7, Okhaldhunga, suddenly Balkrishna Dhungel, Pushkar Gautam, Thal Bahadur Poudel, Dor Bahadur Poudel, Ram Bahadur Shrestha, Thir Bahadur Khatri and Parbat Raj Bhattarai appeared in front of him. They encircled Ujjan Kumar and took him to a watercourse near that village. Dhungel shot him dead and dragged him to Likhu River and the corpse was thrown in the river with the help of Pushkar Gautam. According to Ujjan's elder brother, Ganesh Kumar Shrestha, Ujjan was repeatedly threatened to death by those people mentioned above during the meetings.

While documenting the scene of crime, policemen from Area Police Office, Khiji Falante, Okhaldhunga, found blood stains everywhere at the incident place. They even found small bushes and weeds crushed in the maize field, rice plants macerated and blood marks on the stones at the bank of the river. One torch light was found there, and there was a big mark of blood on the other side of the river. Considering the scene of crime, it is believed that Ujjan was murdered after a preplanned plot and thrown to Likhu River.

Background of the incident:
All evidences reveal that there were two personal causes to murder Ujjan inhumanly though he was innocent. According to the first cause, Bimala Khadka, a neighbor-sister of Ujjan, conceived a child by her own maternal uncle named Thal Bahadur Poudel to which Bimala and Thal Bahadur both confessed later at the Area Police Office. But Ujjan was accused to make Bimala pregnant which became one of the true causes for his murder as the rift between Thal Bahadur and Ujjan kept increasing on that issue. Ujjan Kumar was went on refusing the blame and got to know the secrecy between Bimala Kadka and Thal Bahadur Poudel. He, then, made all the secrets public and helped the police arrest Thal Bahadur Poudel on the same day when Thal Bahadur had killed that newly born child on its very birth day in the dawn to conceal the case. From this incident, Ujjan had become an eyesore for Thal Bahadur Poudel and he was seeking retaliation. Another bone of contention was that, Ujjan Kumar had married Renuka Poudel, who is the own sister of Thal Bahadur Poudel and Dor Bahadur Poudel and a relative of Balkrishna Dhungel as well. Ujjan Kumar and Renuka Poudel had had an inter-castel marriage and all relatives of Renuka were angry at it. Thal Bahadur, Dor Bahadur, Balkrishna Dhungel and other people had been planning to kill Ujjan Kumar for all this. In unison, it was reported that Ujjan Kumar used to receive frequent threats to life by those people who were said to have been conspiring against him.

One of the accused Balkrishna Dhungel maintains that Ujjan was killed because he was a spy who connived against the Maoist Party.

Due to the case of Ujjan, victim’s family has been receiving repeated threats and to atrocities. Ganesh Kumar Shrestha, the elder brother of Ujjan Kumar filed an FIR against Dhungel et al. and for this “transgression” they murdered him as well. Not only this, Ganesh Kumar’s daughter Rachana Shrestha had unknowingly shown the murderers the location of her father and saw her father's murder from a close distance. She could not bear the guilt and pain and committed suicide. The family suffers till date because of sheer injustice to them.

His board first and PhD are facade. If he's a wise and studious person why did he choose the path to kill 15000 innocent nepalese just for no reason? (The reason he did so has already become irrelevent since he bowed before indian "expansionism"). If he was wise enough he should have used his wisdom to change people's belief...not by slitting throat. This is not Dr. BRB but Dr. Jekyl Mr. Hyde Bhattarai. Stop apotheosizing him.

I agree with most of what you have to say dbst; but BRB has to put the gear in PARK, sit back and look at how he got there and what he needs to do one more time. He is rolling ahead in destructive fashion and once he loses the faith he will never gain it back.
Expansion of his cabinet is one more blow to the people who have high hopes for him.

I am sure the expansion and Dhungel Kanda has been discussed/inquired in his weekly radio programme. Does anybody have an exerpt for this? Since he was in SAARC summit, maybe he didn't participate in that program lately, but please do post the link if you know of any.

The fact of the matter is baburam is a top leader from a group which went into the war because of which 14000 lost their life and hundred of thousand lost their closed ones , lost their properties , lands and displaced.    The  relevance and importance of war has so far not been justified by maoist itself even after coming to government.

What nepal has acheived by the war is very little when compared to expense and loses people have suffered.  People life could have been easily improved without the war.

The fact that he is intelligent is much more dangerous for nepal. He is very much manupulative and easily play with sentiment of Nepalese.   Where have all his cheap propaganda gone.

- riding mustang car , going in economic cars etc   ( on other hand increasing cabinet, increasing maoist fees )
- All his gudpak monitoring is now subsided. That thing was merely for cheap publicity.
- During the saarc summit all the members came in their national dress.   (we  nepalese were very proud that baburam went in with suit because we don't have our own dress)
- Law of impunity at its highest. If one does not even accept decision by supreme court then i would certainly not want to live their. Imagine the family of the killed. What can they do?   The killer of their sons go around freely and is minister under baburam. How helpless would they feel.  Where should they seek for justice?

No matter how much my heart wishes him to be ray of hope, my head tells me otherwise.
If ppl cannot expect order of supreme court to be respected, it is jungle law.
I don't care if u ride mustang or ya wife rides bolero, but when people ask for justice, give it to them.

BRB probably had a deal with those comrades. They will do anything BRB tells them during the conflict times, but BRB needs to protect them and give them Minister position if they ever make it to the govt.

Guess what? that time has come and BRB is only fulfilling his promises. Great people need to fulfil their promises no matter how unreasonable they may seen.

Thus Nepal and Nepalis lose another hope which I knew from start they never had. Another wolf in sheeps clothing. The only difference was that this time, the sheeps handed him their clothings.
