Jails of Nepal are to be emptied in the very near future.
Baburam Bhattarai the Prime Minister of Nepal has granted general amnesty and pardon for all criminals from 1996 to 2006 citing that all criminal actions commited during the insurgency have to be pardoned.
A quick look at the data at Hanuman dhoka Police Department records show that almost 90% of prisoners in that jail were prisoners imprisoned in between 1996 and 2006.
This is going to be an unprecedented pardon in the history of civilization. A PHD educated prime minister setting hundreds of thousands of prisoners free.
Sources say that he wanted to set one prisoner free but had to make amends to his decision since it was deemed unconstitutional. He then made amends and declared all criminal offences between 1996 and 2006 to be pardoned.
Baburam has just gained a lot of popularity among the prisoners who will be released shortly. These prisoners have been asked to join the YCL forces if they are looking for a job so they can assist the Baburam government to control the anti constitutional citizens of Nepal who protest this action.
