It is exam time and I am trying to concentrate but my mind just keeps on wondering. I am waiting for Ravi sir and he is apparently away for some reason, god knows why.  But I am here waiting together with his beautiful wife Radhika.

Before today, I had limited encounter with Radhika, mostly in the form of Ravi sir requesting tea with the phrase “Radha, chai”. But, when I got to converse with her, I was happy to know how open she was. I really did not know why I was so fond her, or what makes a woman so beautiful. Maybe, it was her smile and I guess smile is the most beautiful jewelry women can sport on.

So, I am banging my head on the table, unable to solve maths problem and I hear her voice. I loosen my focus to give ears to her voice.

“Mohit, do you want see something?” I was like hell yah. But, I could not voice that in excitement. I responded with “What is it?” She said, “Come on in.”  Being a normal teenager, I had million of thoughts in my head.

Before today, I never had idea what was inside their bed room. The furniture in the living room was very minimalistic and barely minimum. The only things that were put on display were medal, trophies and certificates that Ravi sir had accumulated over the years.

For a split second, I even had doubt over Radhika’s intentions. But, I was like what the heck; let’s see what she has to offer.

I walked in and I felt, I was inside art studio. Besides bed and drawers, it was canvas, palettes, wooden frames and brushes. I instantly knew it was Radhika’s work, because I could never imagine Ravi sir’s appreciation for art. I burst into excitement, “Geez, please show me some of your work.”

“Ok”.

So she pulled up an oil painting on canvas. It was like a couple, a man and woman inside a car. “What do you see?” Honestly, when I first looked at the painting, it looked so simple. “There are two people inside the car and driving.” She laughed at me. I kind of felt stupid. I kept staring at the picture and each time it revealed more to me. I saw the female, leaning her head towards him and looking at his face. The male character in the painting is concentrating on the road and unaware of his partner. The eyes of expectation on the female, while she seems beautifully adorned in a sari. It looked like she is literally waiting for him to take a look at her. The expression “Look at me” was all over her face. These thoughts though never came out of my mouth.

“Show me more”.

She pulled another one; it was about celebration of sort. “So what do you think about this one?” I really did not want to speak early this time. At first look, it seemed like last supper by Leonardo Da Vinci. But on second look, it was totally different from Jesus and his apostles. The last supper had apostles expressing some degree of shock and anger. But, in this picture it was all about celebration, flowers, food, and cornucopia of all things merry. It had more than one figure that looked feminine. It seemed that most of the people in the painting were paired as couple. I could certainly point out the painting was about couple in the middle. For some reason, it looked like the same couple in the first painting. Maybe it was due to the fact; the female is leaning on the shoulder of the male. But, there was something more. Finally, I noticed something. “Why is there no food on her plate?”

Her response, “Maybe she does not feel like eating.”

I couldn’t comprehend that line without a reason. I asked “Why?”

“You have to be inside that painting to understand.”  She smiled at me. But, I was really confused with that answer.

“Okie, one more.” It was about girls playing. One in the middle was blind folded. It looked like park or village of sort. The girls were dressed in traditional attire such as Kurta. While noticing their attire I also took note that they looked well developed rather than mere teens. Thankfully there were no men in this picture. But I knew there was more to this. The revelations in the paintings were always slow and gradual.

I asked “Can I touch it?” She nodded. I went close and used my sense of touch. But it was my sense of smell that was evoked by the colors and the painting. I opened my eyes and I noticed girl was being misled by her friends with sounds from all direction. This time it was quite evident, because they had their palms around their mouth.

I asked with curiosity “Why is everyone confusing her?” Her reply was short “She choose to play.”

Suddenly, we heard sound of motorbike and probably it was Ravi Sir. I saw the panic in her eyes while she tried to hide all of her stuff underneath the bed. Needless to say I walked out of room. I could see metamorphosis of emotions in her face. A minute ago, she looked like an angel. Now she looked different.
