Kathmandu is getting ugly and cruel. Government is cutting decades old 1200 trees. Why can't they save these trees and plant somewhere else? Are they planting any new trees? Where will all these birds live now?

The Kalanki-Koteshower section is the most polluted areas to drive and ride about. The trees are finally free as they no longer have to breathe the dust day in,day out. While it's not a good news of chopping whatever trees our city possess but with the arrival of new automobiles each day, road widening is a most and utmost neccessity at present. The carelessness of KMP has already made the city looks like Kabul and it seems Kathmanduites are all too OK to carry their affairs without much protest. It would indeed be  great if the concerned people would finish the road expansion work in given time with the same spur they show if they have to cut, destroy, anihilate and crush something.

The selfish world likes to sacrifice the environment in the name of development. How polluted the environment was, these trees were not dead. Even if the trees have to be removed, they could have been relocated to some other areas in Kathmandu. I hope the road expansion can fulfill the exponential vehicle growth that Kathmandu is going to see. Mass transportation is the only sustainable approach for such heavily populated areas. But the government and most people think road expansion is going to solve traffic chaos. Perhaps, we want to live/see for only few years and don't want to see anything beyond.

Sorry for all those birds.

Why would anyone want to move hundreds of several hundred old large trees? Stop hoarding.
Replantation is one thing. But moving them somewhere because they are old does not make any sense. Probably new trees would serve better as we know better now about what kind of trees is suitable for current environment of city. If you are really interested you could probably collect some of those pieces and hoard on your roof top.

Khairey, I can understand your perception. However,

Do you know how much efforts are needed to grow the trees?
Are all trees the same? Same species?
How old were these trees?
These trees were very resilient species surviving with all these pollutants.
Why does other cities relocate the trees when they have to remove such historical trees (may be 10-100 years old trees? I think they relocated the trees for such works in Gujarat.
In Nepal and other countries, they do environmental impact assessment for the development projects including the road construction works. I am not sure if they are taking this as an exception for such assessment.
I have seen other downtown cities in a developed country, where the roads are still narrow. I think road-expansion is a short-term solution.
