Today's Chatpat: September 30th, 2023

1. Kollywood's youth superstar, Anmol KC has been arrested by Nepal Police because a producer was tired of asking for his money back. Well, somebody signed KC for a movie and paid him an advance of Rs 10 lakhs a few years ago. It seems that the production never started and the producer wasn't happy. KC is blamed for ignoring the producer's request to start filming. According to media reports, the production team has spent Rs 1 crore so far. I was wondering, if the production has not even started then what did they spend all that money on?

Anyways, KC is now in police custody in Durbarmarg but as usual, those with money do get sick inside a dingy cell with no light or minimal ventilation cramped with a dozen pickpockets, drunks and even murderers. KC is now in Norvic Hospital because he fell sick and the police decided to place him there while they carry out the investigation. Bhatbhateni owner also claimed some kind of an illness and had spent more than 60 days in Teaching hospital while under police custody for the Lalita Niwas scam. Bhatbhateni dai is now on bail and as usual, our lawyers will be minting money.

2. The PUBG lads are in the semifinals in the Asian Games. Let's hope they reach the finals and then place at least third to get us a medal. The finals will be between four teams. Well, best wishes to them as they have to be on top in the semifinals to advance to the final round. While our sports officials are enjoying their Asian Games vacation, our athletes have not been able to perform well and most even not hitting their national records. As far as I can recall, we used to bag a medal or two in martial arts in the Asian games until a decade ago. Our sports associations are playground for the politicians while athletes get peanuts for their training. No wonder, most of our football players are leaving for Australia!

3. You can always call 1166 if you are facing any mental health crisis. The service is operated by the mental health hospital in Patan and is available 24/7. According to their stats, more than 7,000 people committed suicide in the country last year alone. And in the past three years, more than 13,000 people have used the hotline to seek professional help from mental health professionals. Majority of Nepalis do suffer from mental health problems as they are frustrated with the lack of opportunities, massive corruption in each step of the bureaucracy and ever increasing prices of daily essentials and nearly everything else as well.

4. Last week, we faced the government school teachers' protest in the capital. 100,000 permanent teachers signed some kind of a deal with our incompetent government and left town to go back home, happy that they will continue get paid highly as usual for doing not even the bare minimum. The 40,000 temporary teachers weren't happy and stayed back and did a sleeping protest in the middle of New Baneshwor and the government seems to have woken up. The temporary teachers have now signed another deal with the government and will go back home as well.

But wait, we now have our doctors' protest and don't be surprised if there is a weekly protest from someone or some associations'. around the Maitighar to New Baneshwor area because our government bodies have failed to provide any basic support to anybody out there except for our politicians, jholeys, byaparis and sarkari hakims!

5. Shora Shradda has begun today and will last till another 15 days. According to Sanatan Dharma, the rituals are held to honor fathers and ancestors who have left us and to seek their blessings. It is also known as Pitru paksha, "fortnight of the ancestors".
