Like you wouldn't believe. I've only been at it a couple of days, but it's so freakin' hard. I mean what the hell is this? I've been working over 10 hour days for almost week now, and it's not like I'm getting anywhere. I have next to nothing to show for more than 40 hours of non-stop work for 4 days. I showed my boss my progress today, and he looked like I had just shown him a small turd. His look was somewhere between unimpressed and disgusted; I'm not quite sure what it was, but it wasn't good. It's obvious I'm not smart enough to have this job, I knew that before I accepted it. But I figured it'd be at least one month before I was caught. Two if I was given something easier to do. I'm guessing I'll be fired next week. Maybe 9-5 (or in this case, 9-I pass out) isn't for me anyway. This is nature's way of rewarding the most intelligent (not necessarily the most hardworking) and I'm cool with that. I'm going to practice flipping burgers and pissing in milk-shake machines now; that always sounded like fun to me. Thanks for reading. I hope none of you end up like me. Good luck and enjoy your jobs while you still have them.

Bro, yes, 9-5 jobs do suck. Big-time.
Actually, my hatred (yes, hatred - no less a word would suffice) of the 9-5 routine made me attend grad school instead of going on a job-hunt after graduation. Never mind the meager stipend. The freedom to do stuff at own pace carries with it a value of more-than-6-digits. Gotta savor what you do, man.

I intend to refuse to succumb to the 9-5 routine even after I am done with grad school.
Gonna be either a freelance writer/novelist, or an academic who does "research" on god-knows-what in beautiful locales, or a frewheeling advisor of strategy to some political/business bigwig.

i hear you. i was also tied to a desk as a corporate slave once. khai - i'm sure they would not have hired you if you were so bad as to get fired in a month. sometimes ppl underestimate themselves. the learning curve is probably steep, but once you get the hang of it, it should be OK. keep at it, and you will make it. what kind of stuff are you doing anyways? i have seen a bit of the corporate world, and most jobs are not all that intellectually challenging. if this is an engineering design type work that you are having difficulty with, why dont you get help from your co-workers? don't worry about getting fired. they won't fire you right away, especially after the whole hiring process. just do your best, and show that you are trying. once you get the hang of it, things will start to look up. good luck.

lalupate - you sound like a free spirit. kind of like me. i too am on a similar track. the writing/freelancing stuff sounds cool, but it's gonna be a bit difficult at first. it will have to be the academic research initially, though.

zalimsingh jyu,
FYI,
have you ever heard of 90 day trial period. even if one is hired for permanent position, 90 day period does apply "except you are hired in management position with separate contract and binding clause."

so one can be dismissed within 90 days without any liability; and lot of corporations does use this clause.

A new job is always tough. Sound like Khai is in the technical field where results take time. You can't get to point A to point C if you are stuck at point B.
Khai, whatever happens will happen. Just be true to yourself and try your hardest (which you have been doing)

ubiquitous, what do you do that you love????

So what do you want us to do, show you pity?

Here's a news story for you: It'll be like that for the rest of your life. If you can't take it within 2 days of working a new job, maybe its not the right thing for you. Ever thought about being a bum in the streets and beggin for a change? Quite a profession, I tell ya.

i guess muso is speaking from personal experience. how was it? a friend of mine tried it once for the "experience" . i was going to accompany him on the guitar on the street along with the punks who hung out near my college. but then i thought that if the object of my affections saw me beggin, then my reputation would be irreparably damaged.

thapap - i was not thinking about the legal aspects of it. i was simply saying that if a company goes to such lengths (cost of interviewing, hiring, training etc.) to bing in a new guy, they would be more than willing to give people the chance, even though technically they could fire them. khai - i would say that you should keep trying. sometimes things appear difficult, but if you keep at it, you will eventually crack the most difficult problem. the key is to not worry too much about the outcome. do your best, and try to enjoy it.. good luck.

Two questions for you Zailim Singh:

and

Why did Judas rat to Romans while Jesus slept?

Why is the sky blue?

Mussolini, I think u missed that particular question!

Consider. We know there is water but donýt know why it is wet or Why Judas rat to Romans while Jesus slept. While we have no means to determine it, we (at least) do hope that the expert, Mussolini (who so confidently decided to test intelligence of the readers/Zalim), to KNOW it (all)! Maybe benevolent space aliens revealed the secrets to him! Since the answer doesn't exist (or does it?), it is at least impossible for anyone (besides Mussolini) to know

Mussolini(Original one is pissed at u I bet) , the occurrence of idiocy demonstrated by you, as an ordinary part of your behavior implies that it is an evolved adaptation to something in your biology and this raises the frightening question of whether you being sane- a fearful fact because, your friends and family worry, it whispers an excuse for yet another amusing idiocy demonstration by you!

I'd like to defecate in Crusader's head area, followed by urinating on his back.

Crusader sounds like an idiot to the core...doesn't seem to be able to separate rhetorical questions from real questions.
