I dont know about you but here are the top 10 Reasons why my parents would not come to US.

10. Their houses are much more sophisticated and equipped than my single 635 square feet bed room apartment.

9. America is like a jail after we leave for work and has to be totally dependent on us and temples are too far.

8. My neighbor?s dog died, rendering my dad jobless from dog-walking.

7. No Hindi serials in the TV, they infact, receive more channels in Nepal than my 40$ a month, cable.

6. Does not have dental insurance and has teeth pain time and again.

5. Does not like my wife (their daughter in law) for calling my mom by her name and her attitude and style of dressing at all. They think I am totally controlled by my wife.

4. My wife complained of the cooking of my mom because of the excessive use of spices and the smell in her cloth.

3. Has to take care of Muddhas मुद्दा with the neighbor for ?jagga micheco? जग्गा मिचेको and bhrastachar (भ्रष्टाचार) he did, with the government.

2. No one to look after their dog "Kale" (they think Kale is their new son) and pigeons.

1. Oh, my wife is wearing those new patches and they have not had grand child for a while.

In jest!

शिरिष जी,
>America is like a jail after we leave for work and has to be totally dependent on us

>They think I am totally controlled by my wife.
अनूभवी साथिको मुखबाट सुन्या सुन्या जस्तो पो लाग्यो त।

अनि ३ नम्बर कारण पनि ठिक हो। LOL !

Shirish! I guess there is some kind of frustration within you for not being able to call ur parents to see u. No offence! Well, be brave and call them they will love you and bless you like anything. I did same thing and my dad was here for one month. They will just love you and feel great about you.

Nuts

You sound so serious.

They have been here, that's why they could come up with the reason # 10, 9, 8,7.

BTW this is all made up...not based on reality hai..dont take it seriously.

My next project...

Shirish! Well i was little bit serious!! you know I was not too much evolved in it anyway. I liked ur 10 points and thought should reply you.

Well, i personally do not have any problem and i guess neither my parents have any problem in coming here. But i would think before calling them about whether i would be able to make them happy! you know we will be busy here most of the time and of course you have to think about the financial constraints that you may have. My point is i will call them only when i feel that i would be able to make them feel good and bring them into different places. I think i am talking something different then ur asking to post. Anyway, they are the reasons for your question-

1 In winter since they may get caught up by cold and asthma
2 I share my apartment with friends (I don't have my own home)
3 I will be busy from 8-5 Monday through Friday and may be in weekends when my research is in progress
4. Since i am unmarried and you know she is not there to take care of them when i am busy
5. May dad likes to chew pan quite often
6 They won't take food from outside and i have to make food for them at least three times a day
7 they like tea and i like coffee
8 There are so many gals who are nearer and dearer to me!!
9 I may not be able to translate their dream into reality and they would know my reality
10 they might not feel too good about me working 80hrs a week!!

These are just made points, most of them just do not fit too me.

Hahaha, finally I see more humor in sajha besides the copy paste and never ending Sardar jokes. Shrish dada, lop those reasons. Finally understood why my "ama" doesn't want to come for my soon up-coming graduation.

Waiting for the 10 reasons why one doesn't call their parents to the US.

one more thing

If you live in a city, I think it is ok to have parents there specially if one of em' can understand english it will be easy for them to go around town and ride the train or bus, just my opinion

if in a rural town, trust me they will go nuts, you can walk 15 mins and the town ends. they will be dissapointed. the worst thing you can do to them,

my folks often referred to united states as "ulluto (opposite) desh". these r the few things that drove them nuts:

-- unlocking the lock by putting the key upside down.
-- multiple switches for a light n never knowing which way to turn to turn it on or off
-- driving on the wrong side of the street
-- in nepal older u get, more respected, in amrika older u get, more rejected u become
-- n last but not the least "day light savings", which kept screwing their calculation everytime they wud call nepal

How about getting insurance for the parents when they come over?
That has been my headache. What if they fall sick, or get into accident, or just need to go to a doctor? Medical treatment is very expensive in the US and without adequate insurance, things can get quite sticky. But then, those insurance premiums are also quite expensive. And their coverages usually are spotty. Ke garne? Any idea ?

#1 Reason why your parents would not come to US

You married a white chick ( or a neprican). So, your parents couldn't get along with her when they were here for the first time.

Yeah U-Day

The probabilities of my mom not being able to get along with her "buhari" could have increased with the white chick.

But the risks were always there, whether Neapli or American or Indian or Swahili.

TOP 10 REASONS WHY I WOULD NOT ASK MY PARENTS TO COME VISIT ME IN THE U.S. :
10. I told them that I live like a king, but forgot to mention that I live like a king in a studio.

9. I do not own any cleaning items except for paper towels.

8. I do not want the mess in my room tidied up.

7. The only purpose of my refrigerator is to keep beverages cold and to preserve my take-out leftovers.

6. My kitchen collection consists of free plastic forks, paper plates, 2 beer mugs and 1 pair of chopsticks.

5. I do not have a tap nor a bucket & mug next to the toilet seat.

4. I know I have a bunch of condoms hidden somewhere, but I can't find them. Parents in the house = tidying & rummaging = accidental discovery of embarassing items.

3. There's a poster of a half-naked Carmen Electra on my wall and I can't take it down without tearing it.

2. The horny couple in the adjacent apartment make loud passionate noises at night.

and

1. I really want to buy a Plasma TV.
