KATHMANDU, June 29 - Nine Nepali women have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize 2005 for their contribution to peace building.
The nine Nepali women are part of a unique nominations consisting of 1,000 women worldwide, who have been collectively nominated for the prestigious award.
These women, from rural and grassroots levels, have been promoting non-violent responses to conflict situations, structural injustices and inequalities.
This was revealed at a press meet in the Kathmandu on Tuesday by Kamala Bhasin who is one of the 20 coordinators of 1,000 women for the Nobel Peace-Prize 2005 selection committee representing South Asia.
Bhasin before returning to New Delhi said the names of the nominees including the nine Nepali women would be made public at a press meet in their respective countries on Wednesday. (hb)
