Royal Palace refutes news report The Principal Press Secretariat of His Majesty the King has refuted and expressed regret over the news report published in some newspapers about Her late Majesty Queen Aishwarya Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah having accounts in foreign banks.
In a notice issued on Monday, the Principal Press Secretariat said that the news was misleading, false, fabricated, baseless and ill intentioned.
In its front page news item on Monday , Rajdhani daily reported that students of Tribhuvan University had decided to launch a movement demanding repatriation of the money allegedly deposited by late Queen Aishworya at a Swiss Bank.
The students quoted a news item published in a conservative British newspaper, The Sunday Telegraph, on 3 June 2001 ? two days after the royal palace massacre- saying that the late Queen had deposited 13 billion Sterling Pounds in a Swiss bank. Dr. Tirtha Luitel, one of the leaders of the proposed movement, said they were preparing to file a case at an international court demanding repatriation of the said money.
The student leaders, however, did not say what prompted them to raise the issue more than four years after the publication of the news item.
Queen Aishworya was killed in a shoot out at the Narayanhiti royal palace, along with her husband late King Birendra and other members of the royal family?on the evening of June 1, 2001.
A preliminary investigation blamed Crown Prince Dipendra alleging him of wiping out his entire family before committing suicide.
