I am looking forward to take part in the upcoming municipal election. I want to exercise my right to choose my representative thgough a democratic exercise. But I am quite disheartened to know that 7 parties have decided to create chaos during the election. I could not care less when they dediced to boycott the election, becuase that was their choice. But when they plan to stop people like me from going to the polls, it is a serious problem. They are abusing my funadmental rights here. So, I have planned to strike back if anyone forces me to stay away from polls, using whatever means I have at my disposal. Am I wrong in doing this? Please advise.

Once people are aware of rights and responsibilities there is no stopping of the progress. Going to the polls is your right. Parties are against the polls and will not agree to the election unless they are in power and are known to misuse the public resources for their benefit to win the election. sad, sad reality. -Shiv

more importantly it is about your constitutional rights. without following proper procedures described in the constitution, one cannot participate in such election. there must be a parliamentary election before the municipal elections. even if you wait 2 years, 3 years,, or whatever, but there must be a parliament before you elect at local levels. the king, if is in supreme charge of the nation, should directly nominate for local administration.

You are absolutely right to fight for your right, Rambhu. Go ahead and participate. Dont look for trouble but if anyone asks for it, do not hesitate to fight back. Wish I was in Nepal so that I could vote as well.

Election is the fundamental principle of democracy. Denying election is denying democracy. As far as corruption in election is concerned the concerned party will ensure that election is free from such. For example the people who run have their representatives monitoring the process to ensure fairness to them. How can you contest election without participating on it and crying foul play without giving election a chance?? -Shiv

Shiva what u said no one can disagree with that. but the question was what about the election in Iraq and coming to home there were election held in Panchayat era as well. Those all will agree were not democratic elections. So we all have to agree that the elections alone will not ensure democratic practise in any country or society. if anyone agree or differ please comment. Thanks

biswa, Since when elections become undemocratic? Regardless where it is performed or under what political system it is performed, election resembles freedom. Fundamentally, change can be forced by elections. -Shiv

participating in the election will legitamize the royal move that is why the parties are boycotting the elections. however everybody is entitled to their rights if they feel that participating in this election will be a matter of exercising their rights. nonetheless, i wonder what significance does this election have when all the major political parties are boycotting it ? in my opinion it is a mockery of democracy.

Birbharda, If you belong to parties or empathize with them I have nothing to say. It is up to you, of course, to decide on your political belief. I am least concerned about the royal move and the parties stand. It is a fight between them let them figure it out how to settle it. -Shiv
