Do not much of finance. But accounting is pretty hot right now. But Masters of accounting requires pre req accounting clasess, well there might be exceptions.

MBA in accounting, normally do not require pre req classes.

peace

Highfly, is it true that you need some pre-requisite courses to do Masters in Accounting? Anyone with similar experiences? Is it going to be tough doing Masters in Accounting, not having Bachelors in Accounting?
......KEEP ROLLING...Thanks again!!!

You might need some pre req like Intermediate Accounting, Cost accounting. But there might be exception. Its not that tough but lotta work.

You need will. Thats it I guess. Also build up network in school with frens, profs, and professionals. It helps you a lot. I guess you have some accouting backgound. If you have, then it will not be that tough but you will need to work hard.

Also very important is that you start looking for a job right after you get into masters. Most of hiring in Public accounting is done year in advance.

ALL the best.

peace

If you look at that starting salary statistic carefully, although finance is not in the top five in starting salary, you see that the salary growth percentage from 2005 to 2006 was a +11%. That is twice as high as any other job. If you have a finance degree with some accounting coursework done, and lets say a year or two of financial services experience, (work and internships) there are a lot of options in entry level right now. So, my observation is that a finance degree with good accounting knowledge and a 1-2 yrs of relevant experience gives you a lot of flexibility right now. I also think that the financial industry is in great need of finance people who have good accounting knowledge, as regualtions get tougher, making deals and investments get more complicated and technical.

And remember one more thing... The hiring of MBA's have gone down over the years in the business fields. Although it is picking up right now, company's are not targeting MBA's with as much swiftness as we would like to imagine. Reason? MBA's want more money, when an undergrad with good work experience can get the same job done for less money. MBA or undergrad, it doesn't matter. Companies look at relevant and progressive work experience.

What would be better, masters in accounting or finance depends on what you want to do after you are done with your graduate studies. If you want to sit for CPA then Masters in Accounting is definitely better. However; since you have an undergrad degree in finance you will have to fulfill the prerequisites for MS in Accouting. So it will be the same as doing MBA with accounting concetration for you. You will be abe to finish MS in finance in about 1and half years (full time); but Ms in Accounting or MBA can take up to 2-3 years.
