Pastor Pastor Martin Niemöller was a German Protestant who was incarcerated during 2nd world war along with Jews, communists, etc.

He wrote a poem after his release:

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

Pastor Martin Niemöller

Maoists!

First they came for the policemen
and I did not speak out
because I was not a policeman.
Then they came for the soldiers
and I did not speak out
because I was not a soldier.
Then they came for the rich
and I did not speak out
because I was not rich.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.
