The DOW is down for three straight days (as of now), the unemployment data is frustrating, the fed is poised the raise the intrest rate again in their meeting this month. The political uncertainty, oil, hurrican season all add to the grim picture. As a small investor I am taking a hell lot of hammering. What effect if any does it have on you?

Growth rate of Jobs and economy in US has been predicted to be good.I read and heard that more and more companies plan to hire.with and avg 10 people being hired per company it should be good news for recent grads.
Then again american economy and stock market fluctuates don't be scared.have heart and invest more:)(hey don't blame me if u lose more but please share with me if you do make profit :))

yeap good news for the Americans And the United States. Right now taking economic classes and i see no reasons why American economic will be not be heading up and up.
It's mid-term result and i have seen that the US Economic has increase by 12% than last of last year. And i predict that by end of this year US economic would be a staggering hig of 15% increase than of last couple of years.
That's really a good news with drop of 15% in unemployemnt and businesses especailly food chains taking a large percent of employment.
With my analysis that oil prices have kept the budget of many Americans including me into very tight position no doubt good news is coming.
Oil prices the main source with the other on terror wars having been the liability of American economy this couple of years especially year of 2006 with oil prices as going high as $3.00 per gallon (national avg), it was really a difficult first half of US economy.
But now tide is turning and i predict in couple of months before thanksgiving day to be precise i say oil prices would be back to normal. likely $2.20 per gallon.

Now isn't that a good news to all of us in USA.

Ha ha ha. Very optimistic picture you paint, my friend but I beg to differ. I don't think we will see a significant decrease in gas price for at least a year. The US market is expected to go down as much by 25% by november. What about the soaring trade defecit? What about the falling dollar? The political situation in middle east is still in shambles. With India and Japan about to sell the dollars have been holding for so long, it is even more threat to US economy. I think more like recession. How long? maybe a year long - who knows!!

It is kind of weird, you guys are so much interested in American economy but when I post issues related to Nepal's economy, nobody gives a damn. Anyway, if you guys want to discuss on issues about Nepal, there are a couple of topics discussed in the following site. Did not feel like starting a new topic for each discussion. Topics range from open trade to minimum wages, corruption to new ways ahead and analysis of Nepal's economic position in the past few years.

o_o,
my 2 cents...

there is a difference between INVESTOR and DAY TRADER.
if you are an INVESTOR, you do not look @ ur protfolio every day. (O:.... u make ur decision on LONG TERM FUNDAMENTALS, PRODUCT PROTFOLIO and BUSINESS DIRECTION. BUY some STOCKS, INDICES .. put money and then forget for 1/2/5/10 yrs.

DAY TRADER looks @ their stocks every 10 mins and starts culminating what's gonna happen (O:.....

once again just my thought.
===================================================
what do i know (O:

0_0 : i am sorry to hear that. But we have deal right ! you make money you share with me :)
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks rebounded on Thursday, with both the Dow and the S&P 500 ending slightly higher and the Nasdaq sharply cutting its losses, as buyers swept in once indexes bounced off key support levels. 4:10 PM ET

Looks definately hopeful.Stop;(

About oil prices:It is never going to be $1+ gallon again. That is the truth.well there is some positive news on Gas prices too:
LONDON (Reuters) - Oil fell briefly below $70 a barrel Thursday, after U.S. aircraft killed al Qaeda's leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, raising faint hopes for a let-up in attacks on Iraq's wrecked oil industry.

If Uncle Sam's goes down he will take everybody with him. So Sam's friends are not going to let them happen.

Bibas bro , Nepal has no economy .. ke kura garne ?everyday begging and more begging. The money received from begging is also looted by leaders. Are nepalese even serious about economy???

OMG You are a genius thapap. your 2 cents will be worth 4 in like 12 years (i.e. if you discount if fwd assuming a rate of 6% annually). I am an investor to be truthful, just could resist looking at the market - thanks to the recent volitality. One more note - Day Trading - trader who look at the market every 10 mins and throw every thing off their desk at 4:00 (i.e. 90's defination for daytraders) - I thought was already a dead idea.
Dunno I always am a beginner. Always wanting to learn.

now now now.. I shy away from those ridicules (O:
when i mean looking @ every 10 mins are those .. who r trying to capitalize on short term volatility ( i.e. less than month duration) of individual stock... and have an average life of less than 2 years in their protfolio.

lets c .. my investment of2 cents in citigroup TCKR = C will obviously be worth a lot more than 4 cents in lets c.. in 1/2/5/10 yrs..... or may be TCKR = BAC ....

All i would say is NOW I check companies and their annual reports , DIRECTION, INVESTMENTS and FUNDAMENTALS ... PERIODICALLY. Based on that I make my investment DECISION. Not HOW STOCK MOVES in DAILY/MONTHLY BASIS.........

i am no virtuoso in this field ..but ... just reflecting some of my expensive mistakes i made in the past (O:

===================================================
as always,
what do i know (O:
hoina ta!!!!!

Hey o_o, i feel your pain but this is that time of the year when you "double down" on your investments. The last couple weeks have been awesome buying opportunity! So, if you had some extra funds available you'd be loving these days. Up and down cycle always happen with the economy, so if you are new to this game....may be next time around you won't feel as much pain and can take advantage of the opportunity.

Good luck to you!

p.s. what sector are your major investments in?

Hello thapap jee,

Over 75% of my holdings are in the specialty metal sector. As you know investment is just as much about knowledge as it is about luck and I got very lucky with this sector. Invested in Titanium Metals (TIE) about 6 months ago, which is mostly used in large bodied aircraft. Ongoing competition between Boeing and Airbus had the price of TIE share go up over 200% in the last 6 months but with the recent market downtrend, its come down almost 50%...but I added some more because I truly believe we have only seen the beginning of new ear in air travel which will be dominated by big planes like Boeing's Dreamliner.

Look into it when you get a chance and let me know what you think.

I know you've disclosed most of your holdings and they all seemed low risks safe bets....do you have any high risk high reward type of stock?

La ta suva ratri.

Well it depends where you invest it. I didn't just use any arbitrary rate either. I am just obsessed with this 6% rate because this is what I think the neutral short term rate should be i.e. without Fed intervension.
Well if you like to invest long term what do you think about GE? I know what you are thinking. I didn't say this because Buffet just bought a hell lot of this stock but because I work here. It is just an amazing company with double digit growth forcast.
Think about it!!

o_o
then all I would say is "DO NOT PUT ALL UR EGGS IN ONE BASKET" (O:
u have salary from the same company, ESP, 401K invest(may be) plus STOCK OPTIONS... i m sure u know what i mean

hukka_nepali jyu,

i do have some HIGH RISK and HIGH REWARDS as well which I rarely disclose in public boards for various reasons (O: ...

if you email me I can send you some of those HRHR and u can decide on urself...

No I do not own any of GE stock. I was merely suggesting (Since you mentioned citigrp, I was sure you'd like it too)

Hmm High risk, High reward stock. Man how much do I hate speculation. But even then..

NSTK: they specialize in drugs which is administered by nasal spray. They have recently announced a colabaration with P&G ( I think) to develop a nasal spray. The are going to receive $400+ MM over next several years. They already reveived 7MM (yesterday?). They are also researching a protein called PYY(??) which helps fight obesity and if approved will soar the stock price. The stock price is down from abt 23 ish few months ago to 13 ish. I think it is a good bet.

KRY: Operates gold mines. Is recently in pipeline for approved for mining in Venezula but everything depends in Mr. Chavez. The approval is in the final phase. The machinery and everything is already up and ready in the gulf. Is trading for $4 ish and can easily go to $6 ish if approved but everything depends on Mr. Chavez's unpredictable govt. One good news is that the company is not american. It is candian company so the odds of being approved is greater. Good bet, I think.

There are couple of more but since I do not like these kind of "HRHR" companies, I try to steer clear of them. For me they are not worth it especially under these economic conditions.
