King owns over 32,824 ropanis of land throughout country: Report

Kantipur Report

KATHMANDU, Aug 13 - A report detailing the extent of the royal property submitted to the House of Representatives (HoR), Committee for Natural Resources was publicised Sunday.
The report said the king owns 32,824 ropanis of land in the form of forests and gardens and another 22 bighas of land in Chitwan district.

The land belonging to the king alone is spread throughout the country in Kathmandu, Nuwakot, Makwanpur, Surkhet, Kaski, Dhading and Gorkha among others, the committee made public.

In addition, the report stated that the king holds 1028 ropanis of land to his name in the form of houses and palaces while the queen has 176 ropanis to her name in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur.

Similarly, the details of the land held by the royal couple either separately or through joint ownership including the land owned by the royals killed in the June 1 2001 incident was also made public today.

After the Minister for Land Reform and Management Prabhu Narayan Chaudhary and his secretaries failed to submit the report on the extent of the royal property spread over various districts on August 4, the committee had asked the minister and other secretaries from the ministry to do so today.

The members of the panel had demanded an extension of the deadline citing the time required for the details of land owned by the king and his family to arrive from the land revenue offices throughout the nation.

It is estimated by the committee members that the king and his family owned some 75,000 ropanis of land throughout the country in different forms. Earlier, the committee had made public that the king owned 35,000 ropanis of lands.

Minister Chaudhary had earlier said that the government was planning to draft a new law limiting the royal holdings.

The minister also said that the king's land would be distributed among the poor farmers and landless people as per the existing law.

A Nepali citizen can own 11 bighas of land according to the prevalent law.

Poor Guy ! He has only a single wife. If I was a King with so much wealth, I'd have at least a dozen of them. Ha.. Ha.. Ha..

I think, I'm really jealous. I never can have so much wealth. But I want to make myself aware that a man can be like him too - want more, more, more, more. This is what Buddha pointed out the real cause of restlessness. This is what I call a Paagalpan. Our King look always sad, depressed - may be due to a single wife, same, same always having the same daal is quite boring.
