Teachers elope, students left in lurch
Kantipur Report
KHOTANG, Jan 19 - The peace process had heralded new hopes for educational activities in schools, especially in the rural areas of the country, constantly affected by strikes and insurgency related incidents in the past.
However, Jalapa Lower Secondary School at Pipaldanda in Baksila VDC ward-2 of Khotang district experienced another jolt of sorts due to the irresponsible behavior of a teacher couple.
The immediate future of 300 students has become uncertain after a teacher Tekumaya Tamang eloped with Yuvraj Sunuwar, another teacher of the school, a week ago.
Surprisingly, Sunuwar is the father of two children from his first wife while Tekumaya is also married. Her husband is currently employed in the middle east.
"Their elopement has left a very negative impact on students," said a local Tika Adhikari.
"Although the affair between the two was known of earlier, we had not expected that they would elope in such a manner," a school teacher said.
According to school authorities, it has become difficult to run classes in the absence of two teachers, of five in the school.
