UCIP International Journalism Awards 2007

The International Catholic Union of the Press (UCIP) announced their International Journalism Awards 2007.

The International Award for Women Issues was given to Evelyn Kiapi Matsamura of Uganda together with the journalistic work "Crossing Fires" from Sri Lanka. Kamala Sarup of Nepal, who contributes to NewsBlaze was attributed with an Honourable Mention.

Awards are to be conferred during the world congress to be held in Sherbrooke, Qu颥c, Canada from 3 to 10 June 2007.

1. Gold medal: Laureate: Al-Fikr Al-Masihi, Iraq

2. Titus Brandsma Award: Laureate: Moto Magazine, Editor and Team, Zimbabwe

3. International Award for Photo Journalism: (To be announced before 5
April 2007)

4. International Award for Inter-religious Dialogue:

Laureates:
- Malaysia: Joseph Masilamany
- Poland: The Wiez Monthly and Society

Honourable Mention:
- France: Jacques Fortier
- Russia: Victor Khroul

5. International Award for Women Issues

Laureates:
- Sri Lanka: Crossing Fires
- Uganda: Evelyn Kiapi Matsamura

Honourable Mention:
- Cameroon: Sylvestre Tetchiada
- Ghana: Clare Banoeng-Yakubo; Ghana

Doesn't look like she bagged any awards. She just bagged honorable mentions. It's a nice achievement in any case.

Makes me wonder what kind of publication this "nepal abroad" is. They can't even publish correct news?

Since she didn't get any awards we should set up a fund to give Ms Sarup an award for her achievement. I think $2000 would be a good amount for the award.
