Koirala's daughter flays Prachanda for carrying arms

A senior leader of the ruling Nepali Congress has flayed Maoist chairman Prachanda for carrying arms in violation of the weapons management pact, fearing that an open display of arms could subvert the Constituent Assembly polls due in June.
"Why is Prachanda carrying arms despite the Home Minister's strict directives to the Maoists not to carry arms," asked Sujata Koirala, a senior lawmaker of the Nepali Congress and daughter of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.
Sujata said Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitoula had asked the Maoists not to carry arms, but Maoist supremo Prachanda himself had not followed the Government's directives.
Sujata said the leaders of the eight political parties are aware that without laying down arms completely, election cannot take place in a peaceful manner.
She alleged Prachanda does not want the Constituent Assembly elections to be held. Sujata argued that nobody would caste votes when people were carrying arms at the election venue.
"I myself will not go to caste my vote, if people around me are carrying arms during the elections," Sujata said at an interaction programme on the theme 'Constituent Assembly and the issue of Terai region' in Kathmandu on Sunday.
The Home Ministry had recently directed the people to return all illegal weapons and warned action against the violators.
