Left leaders to unify for republic

Kantipur Report

KATHMANDU, April 23 - Leftist leaders on Sunday said they should get united to establish republic in the country.

Speaking at a program organized to mark the 57th Anniversary of the Communist Party of Nepal and the birth anniversary of Late Communist ideologue Lenin, in Kathmandu, top leftist leaders also said though leftists are in majority in the current parliament, they have failed to push the leftist agenda due to political divisions among themselves.

"Although the communist movement has receded in the world, we are still popular in Nepal," Madhav Kumar Nepal, general secretary of the UML said, adding, "Therefore we have to respect the people's support for us and we must get united."

He said all leftists including the smaller ones should get integrated for a greater communist party in Nepal. "Our unity will defeat the ultra-leftists," he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Baburam Bhattarai, the second senior leader of CPN-Maoist, said leftist parties should get united to put an end to monarchy.'

"It is the prime responsibility of leftist parties in Nepal to establish republic," he said, adding, "For which a unity of leftists is required."

Leftist leader Padma Ratna Tuladhar said leftist parties wouldn't secure majority if they are not united for Constituent Assembly poll. "I request you all to remain united otherwise you will continue Girija as a dictator," he said.

Next movement for leadership change: Khanal

Standing committee member of CPN-UML Jhala Nath Khanal on Sunday blamed the eight-party alliance for failing to respect the people's aspirations.

Stating that the leaders of the political parties were not ready to give up their old style and modus operandi, Khanal urged one and all to launch a new movement with the clear agenda of changing the leadership. Khanal was addressing an interactive program in the headquarters of Baglung district.

He also claimed that while Janaandolan-II forced the king to bow to the people's wishes, the (incapable) leadership of the political parties has ensured that people have not felt positive changes.

Khanal criticized leaders of the alliance for failing to declare the country a republic at the same time when Janaandolan-II forced the king to relinquish power. "But the leadership could not do it," he said, adding, "Eventually, the whole year (after that) proved to be fruitless."

Its better for Nepal If all the Communist unites and grabs all the seat in the election.

Its better for Nepal if Communist is in the Singha Durbar rather than Indian agents.....

Indian plan is to make Nepal like Sikkim.
