This post made me login to sajha.

Nice documentary, watched the whole video. The whole nation is brainwashed. no freewill, no freedom, they don't even have the right to think. The last part was shocking, everyone in the room hailing their leaders, thanking him. No one seemed to thank Dr. Ruit and his team ( may have been edited) but kinda crazy was it not him who performed surgery.. over 1000 people in 10 days, Not a joke....

Shame on such regime, and Shame on our Maoist, who try to get rid of our 238+ year old Monarchy. What did korea do, hand powrs to their sons. What a pitiful, hypocrite ideology.

Prachand you must see this video

while i agree that somewhere down the line, you may tend to draw parallels between NK and the going-to-be republic of Nepal, i don't think nepal, not even in the far future, can anywhere be close to be called a potential threat to the rest of the world. just for the record, NK has third largest army in the world and is a hot spot of the nuclear weapons.

however, just from the outlook, it may seem that the absolute regime of Kim Jong II in NK is where Prachanda and his likes would probably want to go. but that, to me, would be an utter stupidity from maoists' POV, given the mindset of the conscious Nepali people craving for full-fledged democracy for decades and the focus of the ever vigilant international community (india and US for the most part) on nepal.

politics apart, what dr. ruit has been doing for the service of millions of blind people suffering from cataract around the globe is HIGHLY commendable. BRAVO! i salute the guy. he is, by every means, a true HERO.

I really feel sorry for the citizens of North Korea. Who could help these people? ruthless dictator would rather let them starve than open up his country to the outside world.

After 1000 surgery people inside room praise their leader than our Dr. Ruit. who is to blame ? NK citizens or their fear or ruthless dictator.

Dr Sandhuk Ruit has been instrumental...a phenomenon...thousands of eye operation each year...restores sight of poor and unprivileged...deshi bideshi sabaiko....

The other but partially recognized accomplishment of Dr. Ruit has been the development of world class Intra ocular lenses (IOL's) facility in Kathmandu....(http://www.tilganga.org/research.php)

Howeve, the kantipur gang, which has monopolized the nepali media, has space round the year for others in the league like pkd gang, chakre gand, gobinde gang, deepak gang....aru dherai gang, but not for a person like Dr. Ruit...and this makes him little known in his home country and more importantly a 17 years young hangout wont have chance to look at the heroism of person like him so that she or he could get some inspiration or follow his footsteps....

....so a unsung hero?

kale kina janne bhanla ferii....soly hai dude line cross garekoma...

I love this Dr. Ruit, for his great achievements and dedications. Also I have my own personal attachment with him. Had he was not the person I accidently reached to in 1991, one of my eye might have been blind now.

The story is a bit long, but in short he was the doctor who took out a metal piece from my eye corona that pierced the eye membrane, passed the eye lense and was gone deep inside up to mid of the way between eye surface and retina.

It was a metal piece jumped off from a grinder machines in electro-mechanical lab, a very sharp edged small piece. I did not even notice when in struck my eye, but later it started to give me immense pain. I asked friends to look into my eye, but there was nothing he could find. From outside it looked very fine. After 5-10 minutes, it started paining so bad that I even could not open my eyes. Fortunately I was at tripureswor waiting for my loved trolley bus at that time. I decided to go to an eye clinic instead of riding the parked trolley bus to go to home. Then I entered one nearest eye clinic without knowing anything about the doctor's name and schedule over there. Luckily it was Dr Ruit's clinic, with no patient at all, and he was just reading a magazine. He took about 30 minutes to find the problem, and he was able to detect the foreign object inserted deep into my left eye.

He explained me - you are in emergeny, you need an immidiate operation if you want to save your eye. Oh my god, what was the case? Then he explained me how fatal the problem could be if I were late to consult an eye specialist or if I were consulting a mediocre eye doctor rather than a specialist like him. Such a problem was (and is)extremely difficult to diagnose as the foreign object was not seen from outside. The other fact was that even the victim (myself) didn't know a foreign object was in. Most ordinary doctors would probably give some sort of eye drop or pain reliever etc. as a temporary relief. But there was a sharp metal piece entered exactly from the central hollow of the eye lense without harminig the surrounding lence and landed at side wall without touching the retina. The object tore out the thin membrane but it was not noticed by me. The expansion and contraction of eye-lense muscles caused the sharp metal piece move up and down gradually cutting the tissue inside, which was causing me immense pain. At one hand the unsterilized metal piece was cutting my tissue gradually, and on the other hand it could start rusting inside eye with the contact of eye fluids and liquids coming out from the cut tissues. The chain reaction will end up to a certain blindness. Holy god, what a danger.

I agreed immidiately for the operation, and asked him what should I do. Dr. Ruit said "it is a minor operation, should not take more than 15 minute. I will put medicine to expand eye lense, and then try to pick up the object and see how much it has damaged inside."

Next, I was worrying about money as I had only 25 rupees in my pocket but I was more worried about my eye. So, I didn't talk about money with him. He made some preparations in 10 minutes, and then started his work on my eye. I did not feel any pain when he was working. Probably he has used enough pain killers or what, I do not know, I just know he poured some liquids, and then kept working with his tools.

When he was done, he was happy. He told , 'It was easier than I expected, and it has not done much harm to your eye. There was only a piece, I took it out, few tissues are cut and scraches remain inside but they will be recovered soon. The metal piece has torn out your eye membrane, which will be hard to recover. However, it should not make you much difference if you do not expose to dusty area.' He gave me some eye-drops and asked me not to read write, watch movies etc. that could cause stress to eye for a week. When I saw the foreign object it was a triagular sized metal piece (Carbon Steel) of about 1.5 mm sides have sharp vortex and edges.

His assistant asked me to pay 400 Rs, but I had only 25 Rs. I explained the case to him asking if I could pay few days later. He was not ready for that. Then the doctor came out at reception, and I explaine him my situation. He allowed me to pay whatever I could and bring rest in few days. I paid 20 Rs and promised to come back in a week. Few days later, I went to pay him, with a word of thanks and a card. He was there and asked me how was I doing. He again checked my eyes and confirmed no problem in recovery. When I wanted to pay his dues, he said, he would not charge me the rest of the money. WOW, so great. He did not accept taking his fee, instead he offered me tea and very nice chat. He told, he felt very happy to take out the metal piece, and find me having great recovery within few days, coming back to pay him as I promised etc stuffs. Though he did not tell me, I understood, if I was not in his hand at that moment, I would have been suffering with a great problem. What a great doctor.

What the f**k!
Makhmali,
What do you think you are? Are you any better than the brainwashed N Koreans presented in the video?

Why don't you know Nepal and North Korea share no commonalities in terms of temporal and spatial coordianates?

Pity on you.
You are a yet another propagandist.

I saw this all documentary and to be honest with you all, we should appreciate Dr. Ruit, for whatever he has done for Nepal. Lets forget about the this documentary, how many of you know about Dr. Ruit’s work in Nepal. Go back to the remote villages of Nepal and ask with the villagers, do you know anyone named Dr. Ruit? The only one answer you will find is , Yes I’m able to see you right now because of Dr. Ruit.
Short description, Tilganga Eye Center, it started from a small tiny room and now its one of the best eye hospital in South Asia. It has two different departments, half of the building is Tilganga Surgical center ( eye hospital) and half of that building is Intra Ocular Production Lab ( the best lenses produced in South Asia, accepted from 2 different ISO, and CE marks). Its all under Fred Hollows Foundation of Australia, that’s the foundation which initiated this all under Dr. Ruits Leadership. And he definitely did a great job for the enormous success of this foundation. Yes, of course, the IOLs (Intra Ocular Lenses) produced from Tilganga were of best quality, the service provided from TEC ( Tilganga Eye Center) is great. If you don’t belief me, go to that place now, you might have to stand in the line from 3 am in the morning to get an appointment on the same day because of the pressure. I remember one time one of the fellow who used to work in TEC (hospital not lab) told me the story when they went to Solukhumbu for an eye camp. They had to walk almost 5 hours to get to the camp site, and guess what, Dr. Ruit was with them as well. Lets think, he is loaded, he is prestigious, he has very good image, and of course he is very well known eye surgeon as well, don’t have to spend his life in Nepal, he has lots of opportunities. Bu the great thing is, he loves to work like that.
This is what I know about Dr. Ruit, I know he is very good individual, and the best Doctor in whole South Asia. The only one reason I know about this all is I have worked in Tilganga IOLs Production Lab for 3 years, and in my work period I got chance to meet with Dr. Ruit 5 times during the conferences and meeting ( it used to be get together meeting where employee of Lab and Surgical center were invited). He has awesome personality. So please don’t take it in any other way, the only one reason I’m describing about this all is , I know that place better than others because I worked with this organization for more than 3 years. I’m still in touch with my friends who used to work with me there and most of them are still there and I was happy to hear some good news about the lab. Lab is doing great job in production of more advanced IOLs (Foldable Iols). This is what I know about TEC, and please feel free to ask anything about that place, I think I do know something about it. No offense if you guys don’t like my appreciation to TEC and Dr. Ruit, but that’s what the reality is. Of course there are lots of Doctors who are assisting Dr. Ruit like, Dr. Govind, Dr. Rita, And the GM of the Lab Rabindra Shrestha (including all the staff of TEC). I’m glad I got chance to work under the organization leaded by Dr. Ruit. This documentary is awesome thanks for sharing with us. We know something about North Korea now, and, of course, Dr. Ruit has done more than this for Nepal as well.
I appreciate TEC ( Tilganga Eye Center) and especially Dr. Ruit for his contribution for Nepal and whole World.

Loote, u r right. Had I not met him accidently at very right time, only god knows what would I be doing these days. Dr. Ruit had told me then that if I were a few hours late, it could have posed serious challenge to any specialist, even to himself. because the metal piece would have ditched enough deep hiding itself inside tissues. In that case, the highest probability was of getting a wrong treatement and face the consequences. To detect a metal piece hidden in between eye tissues, I might have needed very sensitive x-ray, which was not available in Nepal during those days, neither would the hidden metal piece be the first guess of any doctor as I myself did not notice when and how the metal piece jumped into my eye. I just knew, I got sudden pain with erruption of massive tears. I didn"t know any reason at all. For me it was something like a spiritual attack or say BOKSIKO BAAN. He was able to diagnose the problem to treat me immediately without a mistake just because he could see the metal piece with his instruments before it was too late.

I am sure, there are thousands of people who have benefited from the good works of Dr. Ruit. With such outstanding contribution to country, society and the world, he is very friendly, good-behaved person and maintains a low-profile in society. He is a real gem of Nepal.

Machiavellian quote that it is better to be feared than to be loved is working for Kim Jong Il big time.

A political ideology completely gone bizarre and betrayed with the sands of time is what the North Korean political and social life has been for the 23 million people of that nation for the last fifty-years-plus.( Russia and China are not hardcore communists anymore). The form of government picked by the eternal president, Kim Il Sung was fundamentally flawed. This is a perfect example of "no good intention always has a good result". Remember, Pol Pot trying to turn back the clock/calendar to Year Zero and forsake all the scanty developments to retreat to a full-fledged agrarian utopia. What a twisted interpretation of a French author's philosophy?
All these historical true stories remind me of the faithful pet-monkey who cut off its sleeping master's nose while trying to slay a fly with a sword.

Hey hydy! :D
good to see you after a hiatus bro :).

well said! NK has segregated/alienated itself from the rest of the world and this gives me qualms of its approaching destruction. once it became the central territory for nuclear weapons after the deadly famine of the 90's, it has been racing towards its end. it's just the matter of "when" to say the least, its destiny- DESTRUCTION- is inevitable !

as the popular adage would go: "lead, follow or get out of the way", NK can never be the first two so it has, unfortunately, molded itself to be left out. i feel sorry for them.

btw, on a side note,
i am just curious to know, what our own fellow nepalese residing in remote parts of nepal have to say (honestly or out of fear) about Prachanda.

terribly shocking communist cell , N Korea,to torture people . What communism can bring to people! The Nepali communist should watch this to broaden their vision of communism and what it can give to the ill fated populace.
