Hmmm,
I don't really know what to say here. So sad ppl can raise thousands of Rs to vote Prashant (I am not saying we should not support Prashant) but we do not have time or money to help these kids. And I am no different than anyone......

.bibas......good try. The thoughts were good but writing needs to improve, especially the sentence structure. Keep the words simple, just like what you have done. People make a mistake of trying to force difficult words into their writing in the hope of writing better. You are fine with your simple choice of words. Instead, try focusing on better constructed sentences.

Exactly Aug25.
I put this piece in Sajha because I wanted to see the reaction of these people who were trying to raise money for Prashant with a passion. It is not really about my writing (I am not good at writing ...hehe) but rather about the other side of our heart!!! People rarely care about these issues which we have been through everyday.

None of those people who were raising money for Prashant are here to say, how can we help?

What an irony!

I feel for the poor boy... Hope he gets good opportunities in life. From your description, he sounds like he works hard and tries learning new skills. Such people always end up getting opportunities and do well in life. However, I feel bad that he hasn't got a chance to go to school and has to live his young life scared, from the driver and passengers.

And regarding you writing, I am no critique, but the flow was there.. Keep up the good work.

GoolayLEE,

First thing, this piece does not refer to any specific child. This is a story of thousands of children in Nepal. If you want to know about my involvement in these issues, here is a glimpse:
While in Nepal (I was a high school kid then), I used to visit CWIN and help raise awareness in the society about these issues. As a result, I got a few of my friends to do some volunteer work at CWIN. We can definitely coordinate with CWIN if some of you are enthusiastic about it.

I am currently involved in one of the organizations that provides scholarships to poor and needy from all over Nepal (limited by the funds we can raise). We are also in a process of setting up a school in a remote district in Nepal.

I am not writing these things just to criticize people for showing indifference. I am expecting help from you all to support these people. There are numerous ways to help. I will soon start fund-raising to help set up a school in Nepal and I hope you all will help and support just like you all did in Prashant's case.

C'mon comparing Prahant to this topic is total bull. Prashant is the Seabiscuit to the Great Depression we Neps have been undergoing in all socio-economic-political and religious facets. Though I never ever followed II3, his win has somehow brought about an eerie unity (thats bound to die out soon) and that is something that cannot be undervalued at all.

Ok for the article above, As per mickthesick, grammar structure and vocab were the low points. Was a good read nevertheless. However, tear-jerkers like this are something we read in everyday life and its got to a point where it just doesn't do it anymore. What did you do for the kid then?? If nothing, then how can I even trust that you'd end up doing any good with the new NGO you're now creating?? BTW, Every year I donate to the various charities in Nepal but surprisingly, a few still seem to be under-financed (and its ridiculous what luxuries these NGOs need for their directors and their daily operations while not much results can be seen on their deveopment works)...And about collecting donations and opening schools, etc., could you first make sure that a steady source of donation/revenue would be coming in every year for the school's year-round operations. If not, then totally ababdon that idea. For me, to give hope and then not be able to fulfil it is worse than never having taken the initiative in the first place.

BTW, Put up your website on the Nepal Help link on the sajha homepage and the ones who see a potential in your views would do the necessary.

A story of many young boys back in Nepal, and I am sure had I been back there, I would hardly take a second look at the poor guy! I am not proud to admit this, but being brought up in Nepal one tends to overlook these things. Now that I think about it, it breaks my heart to think about the poor little boys who are working harsh jobs to support themselves. I thought it was a wonderful read!:)

To Bisas100,
Nice to hear that you are involved in some helpful projects. If you would have mentioned that in you first entry maybe I would have toned down a little bit. However, I am really glad that you have all these great ideas in you head and I wish it would come ture to you and them kids. I sincerely apologize for my comment above but I hope you understand where I'm coming from.

Language and writting change according to time and ppl use it according to what's suitable for their time and age. I know you don't understand that english shakespere used to write and I am pretty sure you don't understand what all these kidz write now a dayz in cyber chat. And I am damn sizzie my nizzie you don't understand snopp doggs ebonics. I wrote that piece when I was a freshman for one of my classes. So, it has been sometime since I wrote that. But, in any case, I am not a good writer.

ol...where did I say that I was creating a new NGO? The organization I am affiliated with is purely based on voluntary work. No one gets paid for their work, and yet they do this work because they love it. We have been doing this for quite sometime and have helped many poor kids pass SLC at the least.
I will soon come up with a proposal for the school construction (actually we have had few fund-raising campaigns but we need more) and also the scholarship program. Then, I hope you guys will all support it.

I have always been very proud of these young negotiators. I only wish someone could do something to ease their pain. Most of them start smoking and drinking at a young age and lose their health in no time. Not to mention the dust and pollution that eats them.

But one thing always struck me was their competitiveness and their fight for constant survival. In ratnapark they are always luring customers to go into their bus/van first and really sweet talk you into this. They are very smart with the money and calculation.

There is no point of opening a NGO and thinking of helping them. Actually the best anyone can do is to bring the best they already have - good marketing sense and their 'go getter' attitude. I wish they could go to a evening school or something where they are fed, have clothes to wear, can interact with similar kids and also learn few hours of basic stuff.

But of course our NGOs in Nepal is as stereotypical as we all Nepalis and can never thing outside the box. All they want is to get a lot of money in the name of these kids and give them occasional something which is entirly useless.

I think instead of feeling pity for them, we should feel proud that despite adversity, these kids are able to feed and live for themselves. With little mentoring they could conquer the world.
