Breaking story developing...2008 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton has called upon president George W. Bush to boycott the opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympic games in Beijing.  German leader Angela Merkel is the first world head-of-state to announce such a boycott.

Why don't you boycott "made in china" cheap goods first? And see what happens. You will realize how far your meager income can stretch then.
As for as Hillary candidacy goes, she is a lost cause. I think she needs some urgent advice on "graceful exit".

Prachanda..Muderer of 13000 Nepalese?
"Give me liberty or Give me death" was definitely the psyche of those conflict-deceased Nepalese who did not want to live in a serfdom-based society. They were the down-trodden ones who never get a chance to define their own destiny as opposed to the ones living now who are either feudal lords themselves or are the ones used to living lives of slaves.

Condi Rice as McCain's VP?

While the democrats bicker and divide, McCain might just sneak past the victory post in an election the Democrats should have won.

I agree this is an attempt by HRC to distract attention from Penn's departure, as RB pointed out. It might also be an attempt to shake a small but important section of Obama's base: students and rich/well-to-do liberals who sympathize with the Tibetan cause for one reason or another.

Mr Hyde,

Interesting thoughts but what is the connection you are trying to make, if any, between the two? Just curious.

The people who are blindly opposing China are definitely anti-Maoist and anti-Prachanda?
Therefore I threw in the second part of my earlier response. (It could have gone into another thread instead where they are bickering against the Maoists without any substance/proof). Nevertheless, the fact is Nepal has experimented with absolute monarchy, constitutional monarchy etc but never in all the time did it work for Nepali politics. I guess it's high time we give a chance to this constituent assembly and see what happens. We cannot blame anyone before a crime is even committed.

I do not see any reason why we as Nepalese should be so concerned about the China-Tibet issue. Even if when the Dalai Lama is trashed, the Nepali Buddhist could take it easy after all they follow the teaching of Gautam Buddha and not Dalai Lama. Some people claim their friends are Tibetans and they have been campaigning for this boycott. I too have tibetan friends. Just because they are my buddies, everything they do cannot be right thing all the time!
If I should think otherwise, then I think I need some serious convincing from anyone here whoever is capable of doing just that.

The only impact I can see of her statement is, she lossing votes from Chinese population in Pennsyllavania and Indiana. The statement is not going to make any impact on China, President Bush nor Tibet.

mR. hyde, its not a matter of concern or sympathy, its a matter of freedom n humanity. How do u feel when yor roommate makes u do whatever he wants.  U gonna say "yes sir" or "no sir".

Moreover, we are just supporting for their freedom- freedom from chinese tyrannical rules against local tibetans. U know what? We have nothing to gain nor loose from this china-tibet politics. Its just a matter of humanity. U know what I mean?

Oh thanks, Mr Hyde. Although I think most Buddists in Nepal either revere or at least respect him not so much because their  have staked their religious beliefs  in him  but because they feel a cultural and religious affinity with Tibetan Buddhism in general.

Deshbhaktanepali - You mean all 500 of them in Indiana ? J/king

Personally, I will not vote for Hillary and couldn't care less about her own political ambitions behind advocating boycotting the opening ceremony.  It's simply the right thing to do, and that's all that counts.  Of course, I seriously doubt Bush will dare defy the corporate interests.

Anyway, the Chicom regime continues to lose so much face due to grassroots protests around the world.

(Trust me, this picture was not manipulated using Photoshop or any other similar programs since you see genuine shadows of the Hunter and the Hunted no matter which one of the two actors you assign to each of the two fellas.)

It's getting high momentum as of right now around the world. Just wait till the torch gets to San Francisco. A might number of protesters are waiting there and some have already started the show on the golden bridge. Damn, the world is getting lots of attention for Free Tibet, at the same time a humiliating experience for the Chines and the Olympic. I'm jealous. How come we never get world coverage like this?

Protesters scale Golden Gate Bridge

By JULIANA BARBASSA, Associated Press Writer

Three people protesting China's human rights record and the impending arrival of the Olympic torch climbed up the Golden Gate Bridge on Monday and tied the Tibetan flag and two banners to its cables.

The banners read "One World One Dream. Free Tibet" and "Free Tibet 08."

The protesters wore helmets and harnesses as they made their way up the cables running next to the south tower of the famed span. The climb had the group suspended several 150 feet above traffic.

Reached by cell phone as he dangled from the bridge, demonstrator Laurel Sutherlin said he was worried that the torch's planned route through Tibet would lead to more arrests and Chinese officials would use force to stifle any visible dissent.

"The leaders of China have said they'll maintain order at all costs, and we know what that means — bloodshed and violent oppression," he said. "If the IOC allows the torch to proceed into Tibet they'll have blood on their hands."

The organizers behind Monday's action said they'll remain faithful to their mission of protesting without violence when the torch relay takes place Wednesday here, its only North American stop, despite the disruptive action on the bridge.

They said they wanted to take full advantage of the moment in the international spotlight to get their message out.

"This is a life or death situation for Tibetans," said Yangchen Lhamo, an organizer of Monday's banner hanging, who is on the board of directors of Students for a Free Tibet.

Mary Ziegenbien, a spokeswoman with the California Highway Patrol, said authorities would not try to go get the protesters out of concern for their safety.

"We don't want to put their lives in danger by going and grabbing them off the suspension cables right now," she said.

The torch's path around the globe already has been marked by protests against China's policies toward Tibet and Sudan.

In Paris, organizers canceled the final leg of the Olympic run after chaotic protests, snuffing out the torch and putting it aboard a bus.

Rallies, vigils and news conferences related to the torch's arrival have taken place in San Francisco almost daily for the past several weeks. More are planned over the next two days in anticipation of the torch's arrival.

About 80 torchbearers will carry the flame on a six mile route along the San Francisco Bay.

I guess we should be more concerned and contemplate in our own issues than thinking about the world. It's amazing, we are so much gracious with number of threads and the volume of comments in this "Tibet Issue", but were close fisted and self centric in the Kapilvastu riot. The hilarious thing is , we tend to forget that we are talking about the communist country which will no way give the right of self determinance to any provinces. In other words, china gotta be democracy before any Tibetans demand would be fulfilled. So, IMO, any discusion about the Tibet issue is just a wastage of time of the Nepalese folks in a Nepalese forum.

mav,
i tend to agree with what you said. but nepal's in a dicy situation with tibetans protesting against china in our territories. it's difficult to enact a neutral role when on one hand, the underdogs (tibetans) are fighting for their rights (we can relate it to ourselves to a large extent--we being underdog ourself) and on the other hand, china being the giant neighbor and the economic military supreme, we can't just keep quiet and let the protests transform into riots against the neighbor in our territories. This damn geography.

Nepal's government understandably walks a fine line on this issue.  However, the people of Nepal themselves are under no such diplomatic constraints.

Don't expect the world to support you in YOUR time of need, if you remain silent when you neighbor calls on you for support in his time of need.
