Hello friends, I have an economic hardship work authorization that is
going to expire by the end of aug. however , i need to be in school
till the end of oct(maybe dec) to finish my program, and i need to work
for expenses. I am wondering if they would grant me permit in such
case, given that i have such short term in school left. i wonder, if i
should just apply for opt early. i am all confused. also , do you guys
know how hard is it to renew work permit? how long it takes? and does
your advisor ask for w2 and stuff like that?? please help me guys

Kalopani,
I don't think it would be a much hassle to get work permit renewed when you already have one. You just go through International director to apply for the renewal. They will approve it. However, you have to apply 2/3 months in advance.
You also can apply for OPT. If you do not fall under STEM degree, make sure that you OPT remains valid until next September. I think now you don't even have to worry about the gap if your H1 is approved.
Good luck, Kalopani.
