Cabinet decides Koirala will lead Nepali delegation to SAARC summit
A meeting of the council of ministers held Monday decided that a 35-member Nepali delegation for the 15th summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) would be led by caretaker Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.
The decision has been taken amidst Maoist objection over Prime Minister Koirala attending the summit, scheduled for the first week of August.
Few ministers suggested that President Dr Ram Baran Yadav could lead the delegation. However, the cabinet that has majority of Nepali Congress minister, turned down the proposal.
The Nepali delegation will also include PM's daughter and Minister without Portfolio Sujata Koirala, who has not attended her office since last three months.
Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat will lead the Nepali delegation for the SAARC ministerial meeting.
