Kantipur Report
Young Communist league (YCL) leadership in the district said on
Thursday it would declare supporters of President Ram Baran Yadav’s
recent move — of directing Rookmangud Katawal to continue as the Army
chief — 'traitors' and start taking physical action against them from
Monday.
YCL
district chairman Roshan Kandangba said in a statement they would
collect names of such persons from across the district and send the
list to the party headquarters in a few days.
“We
won't allow anyone to organise programmes in support of the president,”
said Kandangba. “We will declare the supporters ‘traitors’ and take
action on treason charges.”
Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML leaders denounced the Maoist threat and said it brought to light their “undemocratic mindset”.
Maoist cadres protesting the president's move had vandalised the Ramechhap district office of the UML on Wednesday.
They also threatened NC and UML cadres to leave their villages within five days.
Meanwhile,
Maoist activists in neighbouring Panchthar district also threatened NC
cadres to leave the villages or be prepared to face “physical
assaults”.
NC district secretary Raju Shrestha said the Maoists had threatened party cadres in a number of villages.
“We
have learnt that the Maoists have threatened Pushpa Dulal, NC president
of Lungruppa VDC, and his family, to flee within five days,” said
Shrestha.
In
Sindhupalchok district too, Maoists threatened Rastriya Prajatantra
Party (RPP) cadre to quit the party immediately. Issuing a press
statement, Maoist area no. 7 in-charge Shishir warned they would take
action against RPP cadre if they failed to quit their party within a
week.
He also said RPP has no rights to organise in the “red area” belonging to Maoists.
Although
Maoists also charged Congress and CPN-UML of supporting the president's
move, the warning has been issued only against RPP cadre.
