My roomies are in OPT. No jobs. (tara ghanta handai). They have just got emails from their university asking them to report their employment details. They have been in OPT for around 10 months. They have also been applying to universities but admission decisions are yet to come.

What's the best strategy to reply back to the email they received from Int Stud Advisor from their previous school?

LET THE ADVISER KNOW THAT THEY ARE HOLDING SOME STUDY RELATED VOLUNTEER JOB. INTERNATIONAL ADVISER WON'T CANCEL THEIR SEVIS  EVEN IF THEY REPORT VIA EMAIL. ASK THEM TO STAY IN TOUCH WITH THEIR DSO. HOPE THIS HELPS.

Thanks for your advice. But as the email asks, they need the employer details as well. If my roomies decide to tell the DSO that they are holding some study related volunteer job then even in that case, they would need the start and end date of the volunteer job; which they do not have now.

It is expected that their admissions decision from a graduate school would come within 9 days from today. In that case, can they tell the DSO that they have been applying to school and awaiting decision. What if the DSO asks them what they had been before applying to school?
