Former crown prince Paras Shah says there was international power behind abolition of monarchy

Wednesday, 25 August 2010 09:48

Former Crown Prince Paras Shah (File photo)
Former
Crown Prince Paras Shah has said, monarchy was abolished from Nepal due
to the meddling of foreign power centres 'who played in Nepal's
internal affairs to realise their interests.'

In an interview
with Machhapurchchhre FM in Pokhara, Shah said, monarchy would be
reinstated in Nepal soon if foreign powers did not intervene. He did not
elaborate what he meant by 'foreign powers.'

Former Crown Prince
Shah's allegations on foreign power centres come at a time when Unified
CPN (Maoist) leaders have also been pointing their fingers at foreign
power centres for almost all troubles of the country.

Shah, who
has become active in the social arena lately, made similar remarks in
the interview pointing fingers towards the foreign hands for many
political changes in Nepal.

Shah said, "foreign forces started
meddling in Nepal's internal affairs after 1990. The Nepal I know has
4000 VDCs, but over 150,000 NGOs (Non-Governmental Organisations). All
of them are run by the foreigners and work on the interest of the
foreigners. You can also understand, which NGO is working for the
people?"

The former Crown Prince, who once held a notorious image
as a troublemaker in public, said he feels Nepalis are being inclined
towards monarchy lately and the institution was ready to shoulder the
responsibility given by the people.

"Nepalis have started growing faith towards monarchy. It is not because of us, it is because of the situation," said Shah.

However,
he conceded that the monarchy needs to update itself according to the
changes in the society if it is to be reinstated. "It's the same
programme. It has to be updated. We need its 2010 version," said he.

"Personally,
I don't have the desire to be the king. But, if it is the people's want
and the necessity of the nation," Shah further added.

Answering
a question on various accusations on him in the past, Shah said,
"others cannot make accusations without my weakness. I have accepted
that and apologized before the people." nepalnews.com

Paras Shah's driving was more of a threat to the Nepali public than his nor his father's politics was ever a threat to foreign powers. Both father and son are great at raising their own image.
