Take your I-20 to DMV and get it renewed.

make sure you renew your DL 6 months before your status expires. They have a new rule. Lets say your DL expires next month, and your status expires after 5 months,  you will not be able to renew it. This makes complicated esp to guys in OPT.

 im05,

your international advisor mut have issued you a new I-20 when you applied for OPT. The valid date for the new I-20 should be around until your OPT expires. If you dont have the new I-20 go get one. I renewed the my licence the same way. And as far as I know, F1 students cannot renew licence online plus they just issue you licence for 1 year at a time these days in most of the states. So, renewing it 6 months in advance would not make sense.

Now, the other option you have is the state of Alaska. Over here, they don't ask u anything. Just tell them u recently move here, surrender your current one, give them your local address. But, u do have to take some drug and alcohol awareness knowledge test. That's all and u r good for next 5 years. Stay bout a week, enjoy Alaskan wilderness, have lotsa fun and fly back. Am i makin' it too easy?  Just a thought !!!

Thanks V2001 for heads up but I should be fine if I could receive DL this time.
@ JackSparrow: Thanks for the info but She (Advisor) gave me I20 and it expires at graduation time and the last page says OPT processed and gives the OPT expiration date. So can i take this I20 to get renewed?
@All the Way: Thanks but i dont know if i want to come over to Alaska but will be my last resort if nothing happens if m sure m gonna get DL

No need to sweat or panic. I went through the same procedure few months back. But when I renewed my license I had my OPT card with me, while my I-20 had already expired. So my suggestion to you, give it a shot with your current I-20 (even though its expiring soon) and explain them your work permit on the approval phase. If it doesn't work, wait for your OPT card and when you do get it, take your OPT card with expired or not expired I-20 (doesn't really matter) and your couple local address verification proof and you are good to go. FYI, even though I had one year OPT, my renewed license has 5 year expiration date.
