Death Metal in Nepal
Death metal is no Nepali theme or genre but you would be surprised to find out the number of Nepalese youths involved in it. In the underground stages and clubs of Kathmandu, Nepalese youths of tremendous energy vibrate their guitars and drums producing Death Metal lyrics and songs. Broken Hymen, Dying Out Flame, Bhumi and Divine Influence are some of the death metal bands with origin in Kathmandu led by different youth artists like Utsav Shrestha, Aveck Gautam, Kundan Joshi, Sankalpa Chettri and Surya Pun.

It would be a hard thing to imagine Nepalese youths singing death metal but not only do they sing but they create death metal albums, sell the death metal music and regularly do death metal concerts throughout Kathmandu Valley. These kids have their own universe like you and I do. Art is all about passion nonetheless.
BLACKNED DEATH METAL BAND “BROKEN HYMEN’s” front man and vocalist Ustav Shrestha
Despite the fact that the mainstream Nepali society has not been able to accept the Death Metal culture into its bones, these youths of tremendous passion have been able to register themselves in the worldwide death metal societies like Encyclopaedia Metallica and sell their label through companies in Spain.
The wave of Dying Out Flame grew in such a massive way that could be seen in there 8th gig Summer Fest 2070
Utsav Shrestha is one of the pioneers of Nepali Death Metal. Utsav began drumming since his early youth and created a band called “Broken Hymen” in co-ordination with few friends. They recorded several videos and music besides performing at regular concerts throughout Kathmandu valley. Utsav with the help of his guitarist brother and the band have made several debut performance of death metal music and their recording have been listened throughout the world. Utsav currently goes to school in Texas but is still continuing his passion for the music. Utsav has sold hundreds of death metal labels in Basantapur itself. This is a proof that there is a huge fan base even for Death Metal in Nepal.
Sankalpa Chhetri at Fun Park
Aveck Gautam is another guy with tremendous energy and creativity. Part of a band called “Dying Out Flame”, Aveck writes music in Sanskrit, dresses and clothes like Lord Shiva and has done several death metal songs like “Mahabharata.” Aveck Gautam has done several hit concerts throughout Kathmandu and sold thousands of albums to this date. He currently resides in Kathmandu and is going to music school for further learning.
Kundan Joshi and the Vhumi team
Surya Pun is another name in the Death Metal of Nepal. Kundan Joshi is the creator of several popular metal bands like “Bhumi” and “Atanka.” Sankalpa Chettri of “Divine Influence” is currently in Texas too. Most of these artists lacking the opportunity to expand their talents in Nepal are looking to expand their horizon here in America through American Death Metal artists and fans.
