Western Ghosts Terrorise Thailand

Thai people living near the coastal areas devastated by the tsunami are
reportedly living in fear of scores of foreign ghosts believed to be
haunting the beaches by night, Thailand's Nation newspaper reported this
week.

The paper suggested the ghostly sightings, almost always of farangs
(foreigners), reflect widespread local religious beliefs in life after
death combined with the massive emotional trauma inflicted on the country
by the tsunami.

"Thai people believe that when people die, a relative has to cremate
them or bless them," Thai psychologist Wallop Piyamanotham told AFP. "If
this is not done or the body is not found, people believe the person
will appear over and over again to show where they are," he explained.

More ghosts could presumably be popping up at Bangkok's notoriously
brutal Bangkwang Prison in the near future, after authorities announced
they're to start broadcasting executions live on the internet.
Authorities are reportedly hoping the Iraqi style televised killings with deter
lawbreakers, particularly drug dealers. 65 prisoners face imminent
execution, the Edmonton Journal revealed this week, with a 1000 more of the
6,000 convicts also sentenced to death (mainly for drugs offences).

A Guy Called Gerald's Silent Drum & Bass Protest

"To a certain extent I feel that drum & bass doesn't seem to deliver
any valuable message anymore, and despite the current state of the world
we're living in, are these artists still happy to be portrayed as 'bad
boys' and not do anything about it whilst all this is going on?

. . .I'd never heard the phrase 'Leaders of the free world' when I was
in England or anywhere else in Europe whereas in America the president
is frequently addressed as the 'leader of the free world'. How did they
figure that one out? They use the word 'freedom' in such a patriotic
way, but this word and other ones they use are not meant for us. They are
addressed to Americans in order to justify their actions, like 'we're
going to bring freedom to Iraq' . . . (more")

6 Million Brit Blokes Want To Be Women

Men who dress up in drag at fancy dress parties are exactly the same as
transvestites, the Sunday Times reported this week.

"Fancy dress is all about acting out your alter ego," style consultant/
psychologist Ros Taylor told the paper.

"I'm amazed by the number of men who like going to parties dressed as
women. They can be a transvestite in public and the next day wash the
slate clean. It's a risk-free way of being someone you secretly want to
be," she explained.

Her views matched those of cross-dressing organisation The Gender
Information Service (GIS) whose website on transvestism suggests up to six
million British men fit into the category.

"Male Cross Dressing or Transvestism is much more widespread than is
generally thought. Estimates of the proportion of the male population
that practice some form of cross-dressing vary between ten and twenty
percent," say GIS.

"These estimates cover a wide range of levels of indulgence, from those
who occasionally put on female underwear or nightwear to those who go
out in public dressed as women."

In more fancy dress news, Welsh police chief Roly Schwarz this week
urged binge drinkers to embrace dressing up, to help reduce violence both
in the street and amongst binge drinkers getting drunk at home.

"People are less likely to get involved in trouble if they're in a
fancy dress costume," the Rhyl police chief suggested (Metro).

In even more gender-bending news, a new survey of men's sexual
practises published by ITV this week, revealed that 42% of young men admit to
taking orgasm, in common with 58% of women who owned up to doing the
same thing.

"Maybe we tend to see orgasm as the signal to stop sex," psychosexual
therapist Paula Hall suggested when asked why so many people are faking
it. "If, for some reason, you mind or body doesn't fancy an orgasm, you
could be at it forever." (BBC relationships website)

How Do You Know When You've Found Your True Love?

Barefoot Doctor: "When it happens, it happens and it's something
stronger than the mind can deal with. Suddenly you're willing to change
absolutely everything in your life to accommodate this person and all you
can do is look at them and marvel at the miracle of their presence in
your life.

However, holding out for such a lover is like holding out until you win
the lottery as the odds of meeting this person at a time when you're
both free and willing are similarly as slim. So don't hold out or hold
back and try to have the best time you can all the time. Enjoying
yourself isn't going to stop the power of destiny."

US Army's Gay Sex Bomb

Chemical weapons experts in the US army investigated producing
aphrodisiac chemicals to induce rampant homosexuality amongst enemy soldiers,
the New Scientist revealed this week.

The 'love bombs' were intended to deliver a 'distasteful but completely
non-lethal blow' to morale by making troops 'sexually irresistible to
each other' and were tested in 1994 alongside other chemicals which
delivered halitosis and excessive flatulence (apparently to help detect
undercover enemies and spies).

While Pentagon official Captain Dan McSweeney of the Joint Non-Lethal
Weapons Directorate told the BBC the love bombs were never developed
significantly, the project shared similarities with a similar secret
weapon programme developed by the apartheid era South African military, who
produced over 900kg of top quality ecstasy as a non lethal weapon
(worth over US$200 million).

Top scientist Johan Koekemoer told South Africa's the Truth and
Reconciliation Commission in 1998 that he personally manufactured the MDMA for
notorious chemical warfare programme Project Coast, under the direction
of the even more sinister Dr Wouter Basson (also known as Dr Death). Dr
Basson was later controversially acquitted by the Commission, though
not before he accused the US of using hallucinogenic weapons against Iraq
in the first Gulf War.

"I had good reason to believe that America used a BZ variant against
Iraq during the Gulf War," Dr Basson said in court. "Analysis of video
material showing surrendering troops emerging from their underground
bunkers show that they had dilated pupils, were drooling and had vacant
stares. It appeared like the clinical profile of a BZ variant," he
claimed. (Ananova)
