Does anyone know what is the best way to send package from Nepal in terms of cost and time it takes to reach US?
And do we have to pay any tax on the package?

DHL, and other courier services are very expensive. So if anyone has any information on sending packages through parcel post or some other way, please let me know.

EMS from main post office, sundhara is the cheapest option among all the courier services in kathmandu. You can even track your mail or parcel, and it takes less than a week.

But that costs a lot of money too, doesn't it?
Do you have any idea about cargo services to US?

I forgot where but I'd just seen the comparision of postal services somewhere in the web. For EMS, it costs 1200 rupees per 200 gram (a guess). You can check nepalpostal site http://www.nepalpost.gov.np/

Some airlines might have their own cargo service, and you probably won't get better deal than them if there's the one linking between Nepal and USA.

Well, I am ordering a package which would probably be around 50 Kg or more. Time is not that much of importance. Even if it takes about a month or so, it would be fine. The main problem is the shipping cost. Using courier or EMS postal service would cost me a lot of money, more than a couple of hundred dollars.
Isn't there some kind of air parcel or sea parcel service from Nepal? May be some people here in Sajha who are in business would have some idea. Anyone?

By the way, gwajyo, thanks for your information.

I am surprised that no one has any idea on this matter. Aren't there any nepalese who are doing business here in US, and are receiving large packages from Nepal?

hurray,

I am not sure but you wanna tell your frens to check over there in Thamel. There are some businesses that will ship your product. Check the import and export firms in Thamel.

I hope this helps.

peace out

Also, they will have the signs that mentions about shipping products. Normally in these businesses, you will find stuff like money exchange, tel-comm offices and import and export. I forgot the exact term.

The cost will be based on factors like insurance coverage, weight of the consignment and % the firm gonna charge. However, I am sure it will be much cheaper than DHL or EMS or any other service.

peace out

Thanks Highfly. Do you also know if we have to pay some kind of tariff here in US on goods shipped through cargo or air freight?

hurray,

I am not sure of tariff. But I think, you pay upfront to cargo company. Normally they take care of the rest. However, there might be stuffs like till the boarding, or to the destination.

peace out
