Cine Artistes Divided on Civic Polls

Like civil society and political parties cutting across ideological divides, cine artiste of Kollywood stand divided on the coming municipal polls. Which is to say, not all share the view that the exercise is a well-meaning move.
Moreover, much like their cousins across the political spectrum, they, too, are differing on whether the civic polls can be successfully held at all.
Much like the politicos and members of the intelligentsia, a section of Kollywood reinforced the need to first ensure restoration of peace. Inference: Politics can wait.
Also consider the fact that they see wisdom in thrashing out what is called national consensus among political forces before trying to hold any election whatsoever. Will anyone take note of what they have to offer?
"Our nation is our home. It's time we worked together to save the country. It is like saving our home," Yuvraj Lama, a film-actor-turned-director, said while speaking at the Reporters Club today. He also pointed to the fact that the people are confused.
Consider what music director Mahesh Khadka had to say. Khadka stressed that the coming municipal elections should not held as all the democratic parties are not participating. "The election won't be free and fair. So, I condemn it," Khadka said.
Ravindra Khadka, an actor who has dabbled in politics, insisted that the election was indispensable.
Prominent comedian Deepak Raj Giri said none has the right to force people on the issue of casting votes. He, however, said he would not cast his vote since "democracy itself is in a state of paralysis."
Actress Bipana Thapa said: "The government should rethink about holding election in the present condition." She added that it was more important to talk with the Maoists now. Tirtha Thapa and Mahesh Khadka echoed the views of Giri, saying they would not vote.
Actor Krishna Malla, considered a committed Rightist, said everyone who thinks democracy is necessary should cast his/her vote. Actress Jal Shah went with Malla and Shree Krishna on the issue involved.
