Hey Guys,

Does anyone know whether we need a visa to go to Bahamas? I am referring to those who are in F-1 visa. I was kind of thinking to take a Carnival cruise, but not sure whether we need a visa to get there.
Anyone's knowledge and efforts to reply would highly be appreciated.

...........Purush

Bahamas is a different country, and specially for Nepali citizens --I guess besides India visa is needed to go to any country.

Try this link

Good Luck!!!

If you live southern part of the US then go to Mexico and if you live in nothern part, then go to Canada for visa. When you go, if you failed to get visa in the US consulates in those 2 countries, then you will be granted re-entery with your signed and stamped I-20 from your international office. But if you go to other country other than Mexico and Canada and have a bad luck then you will be going back home, so be careful and good luck.

Neptex,
That rule got changed about 2-3 years ago. These days you can come bk to US from Canada witho a visa but if you apply for visa at the border and it got rejected, your only option is to return to Nepal.

As far as i know you don't need any visa to trave to Mexico, canada or carribiean upto 14 days. All you need to do is carry your sign I20 and your passport. But, keep in mind you can't stay more then 14 days. This was been told to me when i attended my college orientation.

National NEPAL (NP) /Destination BAHAMAS (BS)

Passport (must be valid for at least 6 months after entry)
and visa required.

However, visa not required provided continuing to a third country within 3 days.

Visitor must hold:
- return or onward ticket; and
- sufficient funds; and
- all documents required for next destination.

Exempt from holding return/onward tickets are those visitors

arriving to meet up with a:
- cruise ship: who should hold tickets for their cruise; or
- yacht: who should hold a letter stating they are doing so.

Purush,

It depends on your cruise itinerary. Are you going to get off the ship? If so, you definitely need a Visa. For US citizen and permanent resident they issue a Visa at the port of entry. You may want to check the procedure for foreign student with the F1 status. I went there last year. I loved the cruise part however; I did not enjoy my stay in Bahamas. I was devastated to return to US. Bahamas is just like Bihar when it comes to corruption and bargaining. If the vendor asks you for 50 dollars, you should offer 5 dollars. That's how bad it is. We went to the restaurant where they had “today’s special 9.99" written outside. After we finished the meal bill came for $15, I asked the waiter why I was over charged and was told, that today's special was for tomorrow, she pointed the advertisement there was a date written in a small letter for the next day. To make the long story short. You will have a great time at the ship however avoid staying in the Bahamas if possible.

Thanks for so many good suggestions!
Simon's was of full of experience.

I would probably go off the ship too. I am considering the Carnival cruise. I am getting their invitations, of course promotions, and credits from them. It seems that I cannot start right away irrespective to all these suggestion although I was considering spring break in March. I need to find an accompanying lady for the cruise as well. Any halp from Sajha ladies for my early decision to go for a cruise.
I am ready to bear 50% of your part of expenses. Don't bargain as the people in Bahamas do as written by Simon.

If you are going to Bahamas getting credit offers, I suggest discuss more about it. My friend was once trapped in a scheme like that where he eventually got to go on the cruise but almost paid twice the price. It was like you pay little by little now and the you kind of get the offer to go on the cruise. I have a feeling it's of the same kind.

My friend,

I agree with AC/DC 110%. If you are expecting the Bahamas to be like US, you are mistaken. Let me tell you the details of my last trip. I hope it will help you make a wise decision. I purchased my package from one of the online travel agent, it was pre-paid. I was promised package price covered my room and board on the ship as well as hotel accommodation in Bahamas however once I got there I had to pay 45 dollars a day extra for the hotel that was the additional charge to cover the tax and gratitude. You are in an unknown island for 3 days, who you going to complain. Where else can you go?

The hotel had a travel agency, they promised us to give a free tour of an Island and other gifts in exchange of participating in their promotional tour of their new property for future travel. We were told it only took an hour or so. We were taken to the unknown place and dropped off. The sales man took over 3 hours to sell us the time-share and harassed us every possible ways. Finally, after hours of humiliation and torture they refused to give us anything that they had promised us earlier since we did not buy anything. Again who you going to complain. On top of that, we had to wait for their shuttle for another 2 hours to take us back to the hotel. We returned back exhausted after wasting almost a day of our vacation.

Just be careful.

I was so fascinated with the plan to go to Bahamas. However, it sounds like a scary tour. I still want to take a cruise. I was thinking Bahamas a great place. Thank you for sharing your experiences otherwise I would end up being a sucker. I've never travelled by a cruise or ship other than a boat (Phewa Lake) or ferry (Statue of Liberty).

Where should I go, guys? I can have a fun by taking a cruise and still not be a sucker.

Take the Disney Cruise if you know anybody who works at Disney. It's almost 50% off. Even if you are to pay full price it will be worth it. And you'll know whom to complain and believe me, Disney cares about the problems you migt have faced.
