Yeo Purush,
Thought I would reply to your thread :)
All the Big 4 hire international student and also sponcer H1B visa's. I have friends who work for Big 4. (PWC, EY, DT and KPMG).
I am not sure about other ones but I know Mcgaudare; Larsen Allen etc also hires international students.

To apply go to their career link listed in thier website.
www.kpmg.com
www.deloitte.com
www.ey.com
www.pwc.com

Well, it all depends on your qualification and business area needs.
Did you graduate? or looking for an internship?
U r talking about US right?

I strongly recommend you taking the CPA exam. (you will get refunded by the CPA firm once you get hired).

Good Luck!!!

Thank you for your reply bond.
I am graduating this May and desperately looking for a job. All the accounting firms that came to my school basically looking for US citizen, that's why I was wondering.
Now I would apply to any or all accounting firms. It is really good news if they hire international student.
To be eligible for an CPA exam, you need a year's work experience, right? Actually, at least the state I am residing requires that. Do you know any state(s) that do not require experience to sit for CPA exam?

Thanks once again.

Yeo,
Which state are you in?
==========
CPA EXAM:

Rules for the CPA exam varies from State to State. Some states does not require you to have 150 Cr. hrs or job experience to sit for the exam. (most states do not require you to have the job experience before you sit for the exam). Its only when you pass and apply to get "certified"; then you will need to fullfill the criteria prescribed by the state. These days you will need to get certified in every state that you will be working in. (This is pretty easy.. just paper work.. well not sure about CA coz they have one of the hardest req. for CPA). So, basically you can take the exam and wait until u have the all the requirement fullfilled to get "certified".
An Honest advice ... Take it right out of college!!! If I were you, I would start studying for it now and take it this summer before start working.
As I mentioned earlier, you will get reembursed for the exam cost and prep cost by the firm. most of the Big 4 will reemburse your money once you pass the 4 sections.

For more info on CPA exam call 1-800- CPA - EXAM or go to this website for more info: http://www.cpa-exam.org/

For the list of states.. go to :
http://www.nasba.org/NASBAWeb.nsf/CBT?OpenFrameset
click on the states and it will show you the req. for that state.

for example MN does not req. you have 150 cr. but after July you will need to have 150 to be able to sit for the exam..
ND, SD, WI has similar req. but double check in the link I just gave you...

=========
CPA Prep:
To prepare for the exam, you can choose from many resources (approx cost $2,000 - $5,000)
1. Bisk
2. Becker (Popular but expensive)
3. Kaplan

see www.cpaexam.com, thats BISK one..
========
Public Accounting Industry:

BTW whats your major in college?

These days because of SOX, all the firms are hiring many individuals right out of college. However, this is expected to decrease as most of the firms have already been through 1st year of SOX. but as you might know; public accounting industry has one of the highest turn out rate, so they are always looking for people.

Peace Out!

In most states you require 150 + credit hrs to take cpa exam but I do nost see any thing that mentions you need stated credit hrs of accounting courses to take cpa. Big 4 hires lotta accting students. But definately they go for the ones who have accounting backgound but there might be exceptions. They also go for MBA s with accounting major but yo gotta compete with other stuents like accounting students with accounting internship.

The bset strategy atleast for deloitte is to call recruiter directly and leave a message. Get the office no from thier website and start calling offices. This strategy works magic. This show your confidence and interpersonal skills.

ALso upload your resume in monster or hotjobs. Write down your are gonna take a cpa exam. You might get call from cpa firms from there too.

As you have limited accting backgound as you mentioned earlier, I suggest you take cpa prep class and show that as your desire to be in Public Accounting. But Ya gotta know that this is very demanding field.

All the best

peace out

Very Demanding..
Busy Season.... 60+ hrs.. plus weekends!!

Highfly's strategy works!!.. very good advice...
it works for PWC, EY and KPMG as well. but remember..
it will be a very hard decision to make once you have offers from 2 or more big 4..
u wont sleep for couple of days ;) hehehehe

cheers..!

What about vacation. I hate two weeks walas, I need mth wala from the get go. And also, can i always remain a candidate for CPA while i never intend to pass it? hahaha...

You can incorporate it by registering it in Sajha bro. Sajha administration will issue an incorporation letter.

I am litta drunk. But hey I am up for "Highfly dreams of dreamz05 in disguise LLC." Indi bro, in NYC E & Y paid 55 gs to start up last year. Deloitte is paying 42 gs to start up this yr in Pittsburgh. But this differs depending upon u r experience.

Its not big 4 that will bring you fortune but once you work there or any public accounting firm and have a CPA then window of opportunity starts opening to you. Corporate firms will be ready to put on fortune to get you in their company. Big 4 experience is really good as your resume builder.Well, thats just my opinion. You get to kniw in and out of the business very well. Thats the best part of the public accoutning.

As Bond007 said, there is lotta a employee turnover in public accounting. May be this is one of the reason.

Have a good weekend fellows. All the best for the job hunters.

peace out

Bond. . .

I bet Mc D actually pays as much iin many cases (as much i referred to). More perhaps, ofcourse depending on the usual knick knacks of what we have to offer and what they need.

You were not talking about the Mc Donald you find in every elm, King or charles street, right? Oh shoot! Sorry bud, I was rather referring to its corporate head office. ;)

But I still want to work in those big 4. I know it's not easy, but please let me know the easy way, if there are any bond dude.:) Qualification, experience apart, I have all the other required ingredients to nail it in the big 4. ;) hahaha

Highfly bro,

Thanks for the info :). 42k from Deloitte? That's not all that impressive, but may be Pittsburg is a cheaper city. I do not have much idea about that one. We are talking about CPAs and Masters here and I know this Indian lady who recently started to work for Ernst & young and is getting 66k straight out of undergrad. Started at 50s. 6 mths later here she was. Does she having this extra oomph had to do something with it?;) Hahahaha. Jk, lest I am accused of being sexist.

But yeah, they tell me public accounting does suck big time re. Oh well! That's why i have chosen someone like ya and dramz05 as my partners in crime. Dreamz05 chai kahile kai lati lati lagcha malai. hahahaha LMAO. Just kidding ;)

IndisGuise,
I wish I had an answer for you. If I did, I would have been making millions by now.

Well, its not hard to get in any co. You just have to be a perfect fit!
And about the salary, it depends. KPMG had offered me about 45K couple of yrs ago when the salary in the market was about 38K. Deloitte offered around 49K, and EY offered me about the same.. (I dont know about PWC coz after 3 .. i decided not to apply to the 4th.. :)). Right now I see its about 55-60K. but as mentioned it all depends. But when you have offers from other firms they will bargain with you and you just have to rebuttle with them to get the best deal.

As you said, public accounting requires a lot of dedication.
In a week I sometimes travel to 4/5 differnt cities. working long hrs (10+ hrs) is normal.
and yeah.. weekends.. on top of that.

but it does teach you a lot about life and people..
well its all fun!

Bonds,

Thanks for the serious effort for the suggestions. For now, I am quite satisfied for what I have been fortunate enough to land and I am very happy in this place. But who knows what future holds. I would love to have a word or two regarding the possibilities of pastures new, if and when the time arises. Thank you though; really.

I was merely playing along, but I do have one eye set on any interesting information that you guys have brought along in this forum. Much appreciation!
