It was snowing outside. The weather was completely undistinguishable. I was sick with my head swirling around and around. So I was sleeping in my bed with dreams of being in Nepal with my buddies and not to mention about my girl friend whom I broke up before I leave my country. All of sudden, my cell phone rang. It all disturbed my dreams and a sweet memory. I glanced at my cell-phone as it said: CALL FROM SUBASH GURUNG. Since I had to wake up early on the morning, I did not bother to pick up the phone. It rang twice and it stopped. But after an hour, my eyes opened as my room-mate woke me. I unwillingly roused and asked: What’s up? What’s the deal? I couldn’t believe words coming out from his mouth that Subash Gurung died in a car accident with his three friends. I was obviously shocked to hear about it. I doubted it so I called Ravi Shrestha whom I called Ravi dai and my friend Subid to verify if it was true or not. It was true. Not only that Pralahad Gurung, who was also one of my friend of LCSC, also died in the same accident. I was restless.
It wasn’t a week ago that Bedija Kharel, my room-mate in Ocean City also deceased in car accident with two other friends. What’s wrong with Nepali students in U.S? DASHA, what we nepali usually call, Is it revolving around Nepali students? Especially with my friends and that I know about. I couldn’t sleep all night. I never thought they would end up like that in United States.
I, Subash, Pralahad and couple of friends went to Lewis Clark State College on Spring 2005. We used to be good friends, joke all the time and party all weekends. Not to mention, we used to be in the same class. Then we departed at Ocean City after 6 months companionship. But after a year and half, he and PRALAD passed away IN A CAR ACCIDENT. When I gazed at Internet, they were blamed for the accident. How can the news blame Nepalese without knowing the real fact?
Generally, United States is referred as a Land of Opportunity. Almost all students traveling in United States for education are excited about their future and their aim. If you go to American embassy, you’ll see hundreds of people applying for U.S visa and only less than 30 gets it. So every people feel like that they are traveling to the most developed country to fulfill their dream and future. But Isn’t it strange to be end up like that? I still remember that day when I got a U.S Visa on my passport and I was all ecstatic and profound. I couldn’t hold myself and so does everybody. All my relatives and friends were all overwhelmed. They were all upon me. I felt like an actor receiving all people’s wish and goodies signing a happy smile autograph with them. But Reality confronts you when you step over the land. What lives mean to be SUBASH AND PRALAD who spent all their money to fulfill their dream in U.S.? Do you reveal it as a bad fate or a tragic accident? Of course I will call tragic accident but if you look at the future of those guys who were good in their studies and had a dream of getting a handsome job, their dream and their life ended up like a beats of necklace fallen on the ground. What would happen to their families who were hopeful to live with their son’s income in future life? I wouldn’t be more than sad to their families. MAY THEIR SOUL REST PEACE IN HEAVEN AND MAY GOD GIVE STRENGTH TO OVERCOME THE DISASTROUS LOSS TO THE BEREAVED FAMILIES?
