From a limited sample of my friends, I have found that it ranges from $12,000 to $20,000 before tax. Anything between $15,000 to $18,000 is a good offer.

khapad baba, for Master's Degree in Enginieering or in any other field, most of the US univerisities
provide assistanceship, either TA or RA. The amount of assistanceship varies with universities.
And in most of the universities, tuition fee and health insurance charge is fully waived for assistant. So including the tuition waiver, the amount ranges from
$20,000 to $40,000 per 9 month or per year. As far as scholarship is concerned, it depend on your
academic background and the type of scholarship.

Hey Lowell,

Which Uni gives $40,000 for TA or RA per 9 month or per year? I should better move there. :)

As far as I know the range varies from $16,000 to $25,000 for TA or RA in most of the US and Canadian universities. But the amount may increase if you manage to get some other scholarship/fellowship along with TA/RA. In case of fellowship and scholarship, it depends on the type of scholarship/fellowship as Lowell said.

Nepal ko chora,
pls read my posting thoroghly, $40,000 including tuition fee waiver. Lets suppose that out of state tuition fee is 20,000 for two semesters and TA or RA payment is $20,000 for 9 months, isn't that become $40,000 ? In some universities like boston college, standfrod universities, it exceeds even $40,000.
And u r most welcome in us universities, may I start to google some universities for you?

Lowell,
Thanks for the clarification. If you include tuition fee waiver as well, it might reach upto $40,000.

:)

Lowell,

If you can find a university which gives $40,000/yr as TA/RA above tuition fee waiver, I will be more than happy to join the university :)
But I guess you need to search something important for yourself rather than searching unis for me :P
Good luck for your search :)

NKC,
If you want like that, you have to join the university as a faculty not as a student.

to my knowledge stipend varies. the least i have heard is about $450 per month for 10 hr TA/RA and most I have heard is about $2000 per month for 20 hr TA/RA. This excludes tuition waiver. in some schools grad RA/TA dont need to pay tuition fee but in some schools they need to pay some percent of instate fee. every grad students need to pay regular other fees. if you get TA, there is also a chance that you will get paid for fall and spring only, you might not get paid for summer. bottomline, every school has its own rule and pay varies from school to school.

MT,

$ 40,000/yr as faculty...isn't that too low... :(
I would rather work for consultancy and earn more than double rather than being a faculy and getting just $40,000/yr.

Once I got to see the pay check of my supervisor and it showed $ 8,500 as his 15 days salary. That's why, I am kinda motivated to be a faculy at Unis.

:)

Stipend depends on number of factors, major being the cost of living in the city, available grant for the project and the department fund. In general a full time GRA or GTA gets in between 900-2500 $ per month.

GRA/GTA/GA Stipend is meant for just a support for living, so don't be too critical about it.

Oh yes, and most of them get full time tuition waiver. Being employed as a GRA and GTA is therefore the best bet and the most common form of scholarships for grad students. There may be different form of scholarships for international students depending upon schools, that you need to find out.
