Does anyone know how long does it takes to get a new green card if someone looses it? a friend of mine, lost his wallet with this plastic green card and his social security in it. Does he have any ways to seek work while his green card is not replaced? please help.

Dyamn People try to get the greencard and you loose it...he he just kidding. First file a police report then go to INS office in your area with that copy, your birth certificates, passport and file a lost G.C report. You also have to pay for the replacement card. It will take about 6 to 9 months for replacement. also visit ins web site

good lucj

It depends on which center you send for replacement. You need to file I-90 form to USCIS. Processing fee is $260. Getting police report is a good starting point. As Spirit said earlier, you should be ready to wait for 6-9 months. I got mine in exactly four months.

the person was going to file the citizenship application on april 10th and in between switching jobs. Do you guys think the local Ins would let him apply for citizenship without a plastic green card on his possession?
what about switching jobs? Does the local INS office issue some kinda card to prove that the person is legal and authorized to work , while they take thier sweet 1 year to issue a new one?
please help...

Unit you are still under 25 years. Go to selective service site and register immediately. it would not cost anything and they will send card with your mumber which you can show to ins

What is the confussion here - If the person already had a green card, just have them issue a new one tell them he lost it...all they will ask is ID/SSN. GEEZZZZZ Probably take few weeks max

For the lost greencard, go to www.uscis.gov and fill out the online application for the lost green card(i forgot the form number, but go to the forms and efiling you'll find it), the fee is like $300 usd, you will be provided with the appointment date to the place that's near to your locale, this is for the biometric exams where they take your pics and fingerprints, make sure you take your photo IDs after that you are all done, it will take like two weeks to get the new greencard that would be mailed to you.

I guess there will not be problem to file for naturalization. As long as you have a copy of the greencard and alien number that should be okay. However, the new employer might want to see the original copy of the green card. There could be a problem without the actual greencard.

However, the situation will not last for a year. Just file I-90 form to USCIS (if possible file online). Print the receipt notice. This receipt notice will be the proof for anything until you are given an appointment for finger printing and finally a new card.
