Dear Friends:

I see so many educated person in sajha. So many views in Politics. We have not talked about the economic revolution, which is a MUST in today's scenario. Dear friends please share your views. Political stability itself is not the final answer, we should have sound economic condition. It should be the final goal of any politics.

when will we all be united for economic revolution?

Have you guys ever heard about any economic program brought forward by Maoists? They all keep telling we should get rid of this 235 yrs (not sure abt this number hai!!:-)) old rulers etc. But never heard about how the Maoists will lead to the economic prosperity of the country. They have never come up with any plan that says when will our country be economically sovereign.

Okay, we will take the king out of throne. We will manage all the arms and Maoists Militia. Now what??

Maoists are already been fed by Indian beaurocrates and politicians. They have already started relying upon the Indian Politics. That means we will not see any radical change in economic development. So, what did we nepalese gain?? 13,000 people died just to take these guys to the headlines. That's it.

Prachanda keeps telling that every country has come through the civil war before it has developed. But I feel, its not the civil war that led to the development. It is the economic strategy, the country followed , that led the country to economic welfare. It's time to start homework regarding the economic revolution in Nepal.

Ganesh Man Singh was right by that time when he said "You helped us in political revolution, Now we need your help in economic revolution" but nobody listened to him. We are already 13 years late. We don't want to be late no more. There should also be a "Team" formed by this government which will decide the economic pathway of the country.

Selling the Electric power is not the solution. We should be able to consume all the power and sell the product we produce. We are not weak as far as our skill is concerned all we need is a good management and a good policy.

Empowerment of our people should come through economic awareness and financial independence not any particular kind of political ideology. We would have had the opportunity for economic development had it not been for the terrorist acts carried on by the Maoists for the last 13 years. It's not a rocket science to figure out Nepal would have definitely benefited just on the virtue of being in between two of the world's fastest growing economies. Which really makes you wonder about the whole motive and the precise timing of this so called "Maoist Revolution" and the international conspires behind it. I mean think about it, if you truly believe Maoists were running their party solely through donation and money extortion then you are kidding yourself. Nepali brain isn't any lesser than of Indians when it comes to IT stuff. We could have definitely had our share of IT and outsourcing boom Nepal. For India it would mean $$$ out of their economy into Nepal's. And I am not talking a few millions $$ here, I am talking in billions. So, it was a very easy choice for India to finance Maoist to keep the instability in Nepal while it took some of the biggest foreign investment in the last decade. Just like this generation will never forgive the Ranas for depraving Nepalis of education for 100s of years, the future generation will never forgive the Maoists for sabotaging their economic foundation.

Once again I hate to sound such an India hater but the fact is their policies on Nepal speaks volume. So just like if we want political stability and peace, we need to separate ourselves from India (and I don’t mean isolate). It is just as much important for Nepal to NOT be so directly dependent on India for our economic growth. Nepal being landlocked and most of our imports and exports traffic via Indian sea ports has been their biggest exploiting leverage. Just a few days ago China opened its 5 billion dollars railway line linking Tibet to mainland China and if there ever was a starting point for economic awareness and financial independence, this is it! Multi landed highways need to be constructed, even a railway line of our own connecting Tibet to different big cites of Nepal needs to be build. If we can accomplish this not only we won't have to depend on only India or China but we can have them depend on us for proving easy and efficient trade route for Indo-China trade. We can be the transit point for over 3 billion plus peopl........imagine the possibility! Sky is our limit.

rudra prasad upadhya ji,
Why r u starting such a stupid conversation in a place where we are talking about development. You disagree with memyselfandnepal thats fine but do not put down anybody. And by the way memyselfandnepal did not say anything wrong because we nepalese really to lack respect for our previous history thats why we can't move forward. But education, economy, and etc... will change the way we think so if you can't talk anything reguarding development then don't spread your venom here.

the govt should start the economic reform with a vivid political ideology, as far as i am concerned, be it a democratic, communism, socialist, that barely matters, what matters is how disciplined and focused is the govt.

Govt-Ppl-maobadi better come to an understanding that this tug war between parties and maoist is not a win-win...it will never come to an end, develop a consensus.

econimic reform-increast the cash flow first, how is the govt suppose to initiate steps towards economic reform, without any money.

taxes....going back last 10 yrs, start collecting tax first, sales tax, property tax, fed tax.

Trust me camoflaged bro, I know there are many Nepalese who want to help but they are waiting for dual citizenship, favorable politics, etc... and they will have to wait a lot more then couple of years in order to get that. By that time there probably won't be anyone left in Nepal to help. All I am saying is that we in Sajha should do something right now, not in couple of years, because in that couple of years we should be much smarter on the things that we need and should build. I am just searching for few people who are really interested in helping me with this quest. So how about it camoflaged bro? Do you want to start something soon or matter of fact anyone in sajha?

Trust me bro, couple of years would be too long to wait and nothing being done on the things that we just talked about?

Nothing can be done during political instability. Just talk about it....or make plans...like we are doing rt now...but when this instability ends, nepalis should focus on tourism as it is the main income(in practicality) for nepal. And also start building roads side-by-side. Generating electricity to sell to india is not a practical solution, because

1) Nepal cannot afford the investment
2) Even if nepal gets investment(somehow), there is no gurantee the project(s) will be successful
3) India can generate its own electricity (nuclear).

There were several micro-hydro project in the villages, which stopped due to political instability. It should resume after the country gains stability.

And I bet you guys can lead any kind of socio-economic revolution .yet all of you are out of country and the flood of the brain drainage is getting bigger and bigger everyday . This is one of our misfortune and still there is another worst Misfortune has written down on our forehead AND that is “ To let those demagogues free to play their dirty game”.

I agree 100% with Hukka Nepali..
It is not rocket science to understand that we (nepal ) could have benefited from the fast growing two negibours. But i again blame maoist for destroying infrastucture..growth during 90s democracy..I think nepal though struggling saw lot of improvement during that era..we saw revoutionay programs like"afno gaun afai banau""the pension to elderly people".Some could have gone to great height had these dogs hadn't fought for the bones. And maoist dogs come n what do they do..they cannot win seats in parliament pick up guns and start destorying limited roads, airports, bridges..funny that people still belive they are going to take nation to prosperous one..i just laugh at their limited knowledge..These maoist are the one who made several industries close down... who suffered????people..poor people.
they act like messiah now..
Just the example how maoist are responsible for putting a full stop in nepal's economic growth!!!

Coming back to the topic:
Who is going to invest in Nepal????

we are going to invest in Nepal.I mean we all ...
in our (mutual ) capacity.. small hydro projects .. yes we want profit of course YES! but is it going to help country as whole..Small Energy companies (public trading) working for small projects..combining the electic grid!!!

Then who is going to invest in Big hydro projects.Everybody in the world is going to invest in the project. Not only India..Show Europe that you can deliver cheap electricity show china you can deliver.. What am i talking about a global electric Grid..Without it the whole world cannot sustain . we all know that we have limited amount of energy. If the whole world cannot share the renewal energy .the whole world is doomed.

Transportation grid... who is going to invest..Country is going to invest loans of course. But will be generated money by tolls..Any business benefiting from roads won't mind investing money in that sector..example tourism industry would / will give share of money if you can take tourist easily to remote places...It is tragedy for Nepal that we have freaking huge mountains which makes it so much harder to develop But we can make that grid happen .It is certainly possible .Trade between China and Nepal will flourish..

what Nepal needs now is not communism , not socialism and not capitalism..Nepal needs social - capitalism.
develop country in the infrastucture at the same time not total loss for profit as well for investors.

ImI said:

"Even if maoist comes , which people are thinking is going to be great.i did not see any economic vision in them. They are still stuck in the land ..just land..we need to distibute land.. etc..

Ok personally i do not own that much land nor my family owns it .I have nothing to get scared of maoists land reforms But think about it.. why in west a farmer has so much land but if we divide that into 100 parts how much would they produce.Mass agriculure and farming is required not small scale which is not even sufficient to feed one family."

Exactly. These maoists will no doubt push Nepal to stone age. Also political stability is a prerequisite for economic progress and foreign invcestments. The recent turn of events in Nepal does not augur well for either political stability or economic progress.

Hukka Nepali has got the point. I agree with you.

I went to a store and got a GAP jeans, which had this label "Made in Bangladesh". There are so many stuff we can see that are made in India, Pakistan, Srilanka. Why don't we get these works? The investor have not found our country a safe land to invest. The policy makers should make them believe that Nepal is also a safe place to invest.

Foreign investment in Mega Hydropower has always resulted in expensive tariff in the end. We can see Bhote Koshi and Khimti. NEA is paying approx. 25 % of its annual income to these two electric power companies. Where as Chilime, the hydropower plant developed by NEA itself, is the cheapest one. We should generate internal funding for these basic needs.

As ImI has said, Tourism is another best source of income.

The best solution is that we should be united to get a new policy which will attract all the Nepalese people abroad to invest money in Nepal.

no i don't know engles...ha haha.... i didn't want to repeat everything i said earlier...
ok what i can say in brief is that, if it was not for maoists, the politicians would be still doing whatever they want...they meetings would still be 10 mins long and decisions would have been predetermined....I think the roots for democracy has to be strong for development process and it wouldn't haven't possible without maoists. The politicians wouldn't be scrutinized. Right descisions can be make only after pure democracy, which we are facing only now!
