I dont know what happens if somebody has problem with my advisor. However, if I had problem with my graduate advisor, I would confess my mistake ( even if I did not commit) and seriously apologize wth him. I would not have any better option if I wanted to be graduated at least from US universities :)!! good luck dude.

Depends on What kinda problem you have with your advisor. If there are other professors who are willing to support you, then probably you can stop working for him/her and join other professor. But i mean advisor support your education in university, so don't wanna get into trouble, unless you can support yourself in grad studies.

Bibas,

I am sorry for the serious typo, I guess I was not thinking......

Lale.... that's what everyone says... but like ok the advisor supports you... he is your supervisor..... but still.... say sorry... for his "rude" behaviour..... i was in the dilemma but i guess i am going to do what everyone else is telling me.

Thanks all for responding.....

Depends on the problem. Also is he your international student advisor or your thesis advisor? Usually advisors are nice, so talk to him. You know misunderstandings are common. If your thesis advisor is giving you a hard time, then remember its for your own good. Professors are demanding and its not easy to graduate. But if your advisor is being "rude" for no reason, then you can petition the academic council/committee.. but this is going too far. Be polite, be nice and talk to him.. dudh dine gai ko laat khanu parcha kahile kahi.. k garne?

If the prof said your paper is trash, then that's not being rude. Intead of feeling bad and humiliated you should be happy because he read your paper, and is giving you his sincere opinion. So thank him and rewrite your paper/thesis.

It's better not to have any problems with your graduate advisor. These professors are like power hungry and once they decide to ruin your graduate career, they go to any lengths to do that ( so I have learnt). After all, most of them are freakinggggggggggg nutsssssssss( scientists in my case) who have spent most of their life in research....
I have seen very less emotions associated with these graduate profs.

So good luck and if possible work it out with ur guruji...
I guess u already did. That's the most sensible thing to do.

I have the same problem with my advisor. I dont know whether i can change the advisor or not. I took one subject which was not advised from the regular advisor but it was from one of my professor. Siting that reason, the advisor is trying to add extra credit as i have already finished my whole credit. Now in the mean time of filing of Graduation (G-2), he cancelled my appeal and asked for extra credit. Though another professor is in my favor but i am not decided what to do. And i am trying to persuade other few professors so that i can succeed. In every case Dept. head is always crucial and can not decide in my favour.
Good suggestions please.

bkb,
I am not aware of the education system there. But here in my school we always have two advisors. In case of accident or differences or anything, if we wanna change then yeah we can always do that and work with the other one. We can also appeal. I have seen many of my seniors doing that. It is not very uncommon here in my school. But I am a bit confused about which kind of advisor you mean. Is he/she your project advisor? I know this info will not be that helpful to you. But still just felt like dropping by since I have seen my frens going thru the similar problem.
Good luck!

Bibas100,

You dropped in JUST FOR THAT REASON. People are strange.

Friends,
As i mentioned earlier, my graduate advisor did not sign the G-2 form rather asked for extra credit. He suggested me to go till Aug 2008 with only one subject as he knows that May graduation is difficult for int students. So i am planning to sign from another professor. But i dont know about the final approval. If you had any problems and solution please help me.

i agree with isolated freak. identify the problem first. if it's miniscule misunderstanding, there is ALWAYS a solution. if it's regarding technical support or other reasons pertaining to your studies, you may also want to think about looking for an alternative--go for one, who has no dearth of fund/support and technical aptitude/consultations.

graduate schooling is like marriage. there is bound to be differences with your adviser at times but at the end of the day he/she is your fate-maker (for the lack of a better word :P).
i myself went through a similar experience once. while my adviser was one heck of a human being, he failed to support me in the technical grounds. resulted in a divorce. i was being selfish but what could have i done? that was one sad experience indeed. he is and will remain a father figure to me though.

totally agreed with isolated freak and Loote bro. I had similar experience with my master's supervisor. डिग्री हातमा परेपछि बुढालाई पडाडिबाट ढुङ्गाले हानेर भाग्छु भन्ने सोचेको थेँ। But finally i realized he did a lot for my future. I wouldn't be here without his support. And again, I am having hard time with current supervisor. I am sure I will be feeling much much better after graduation.

Just be nice and calm. Good luck.

I always got supercool advisors and feel like I could have done much better, if there were strict advisors on the way. Hard time now worths, for sure.
