The government of Nepal has not increased petrolium price since it was $90 barrel in international market. Now the price is $112 dollars. The NOC had been provided money from finance ministry for last 4 months and the due is more than 12 billion rupees. That is almost 8% of total country's budget. Do you think the first cabinet meeting of Maoist led government will make the unpopular decision of increasing the petrolium price and dig their own grave yard???
Will UML and Congress and Forum who are in opposition will take this as an opportunity to hit maoist back....

If they need to increase prices, they better do it right away, when they are still in the honeymoon period and people might be more forgiving of them. Looks like this could be the first test of their economic policy. I am betting they wont take the bait but let's see. Waiting, watching. :)

The other thing thats bothering me is...where will they get money for all the proposal they put forward in their advertisement pamphlet. They are not going to get any foreign donations or aids till they make some serious changes in their functionailty and dismantle YCL and solve the problem related to PLA.

My thoughts exactly (and something I mentioned on the thread started by GP) Forget the promises of the moon and the stars they made to everyone and their mother, they need to be careful that they don't do anything stupid to scare off the inflow of money from the outside. Look at the sources of Nepal's budget - you can't run this economy without donor money and loans. One rumor floating today is they will offer the finance ministry to Mahat - assuming the Congress goes into government. NEPAL'S

Do you really think, after the face to face with YCL, he would accept it? The best thing for congress is to set back. In the mean time, we will also know how would they behave in the government, so we would be ready for next real election in two years. As I mentioned in GP thread, I am looking forward to their social and economic agendas. Let see what we can hope from them.

Captain Haddock...here is the reply to your optimism. Sorry dude...it is hard to see silver lining in these dark clouds.
‘Maoist cadres’ thrash Dr Mahat in Nuwakot |
|
Himalayan News Service |
Kathmandu, April 14:
Newly elected member to the Constituent Assembly Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, who is also the Finance Minister, was injured today when a group of 25 Maoists attacked his band in Dudhdevi VDC of Nuwakot today. Seven other persons were also injured when the Maoists attacked them when Dr Mahat and his associates were returning home from a victory rally organised to mark Mahat’s victory from Nuwakot -2. NC cadres Prahalad Phuyal and Umesh Karki, a police inspector and four minors were injured in the incident. Dr Mahat, Phuyal and Karki sustained injuries in the head. Dr Mahat, who reached the capital late in the evening, organised a press conference to inform the media about the incident. Mahat underwent a primary treatment at Ganeshthan VDC health post. “I will see a doctor tomorrow to find out how serious the injury is,†Mahat said during the late night press conference at his residence. Maoist cadres pelted stones at them and attacked with sickles. Earlier, the Maoists had also injured another NC cadre Shiv Dangol in Bidur, the district headquarters. “Before the incident, the Maoists had torn off a few ballot papers in the election office to protest against my win,†said Dr Mahat. He lamented that the Maoists continued with their excesses even after the polls. “They threatened physical action against our cadres and did not let our cadres to vote freely; they have won majority seats because of intimidation and violent tactics,†Dr Mahat said. Earlier, Dr Mahat was declared winner from Nuwakot-2 with a narrow margin of 104 votes.

I am not advocating who should be the FM but simply trying to analyze the options they have on this. What I am advocating though is the Congress and UML stay out of the government and support it from the outside.
