Indian envoy reassures India's 'active support' to Nepal Indian Ambassador to Nepal Shiva Shankar Mukherjee has reiterated that India will continue to extend its support to the future CPN-Maoist led government. He also said that the Indian government is 'happy' with the political changes in Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukherjee (File Photo) Talking to media persons at the TU Teaching Hospital where he had reached to enquire about the health condition of journalist Rishi Dhamala Thursday, Mukherjee said that since the Maoists have got the people's mandate, the new government to be formed under its leadership would have "full support" of India. "India respects the aspiration of the Nepalese people," he said, adding that his country would continue to help Nepal's peace process in the coming days also. The Indian envoy further said that India has since long been wishing to see establishment of a sustainable peace and improvement of democratic values in Nepal, and expressed hope that the political parties would work in cooperation to ensure the smooth running of the government. Prachanda holds 'long and serious' talks with Indian FM

Indian foreign minister Pranab Mukherjee has said that India is willing to work with the new Maoist led government in Nepal.

Congratulating Maoist chairman Prachanda on the tremendous success of his party in the Constituent Assembly election by telephone, Mukherjee is said to have also advised the Maoists to seek the consent of Nepali Congress, CPN-UML including other political parties while drafting the constitution on important matters of the state, Kantipur Daily quoted an unnamed source as saying

During the telephonic conversation, Prachanda is learnt to have expressed his wish to come on a visit of India and Mukherjee had said he can come anytime.

Meanwhile, speaking at a program in Kathmandu Wednesday chairman Prachanda affirmed that Nepal has "special relationship" with India due to geographical, cultural and historical reasons. He also revealed that he had "long and serious talks with New Delhi officials" Tuesday.

"Delhi has already said that it is looking forward to improve the overall relationship with the Maoists," he said, adding that India has already forgone the concept of twin pillar of constitutional monarchy and democracy and accepted the decision of the Nepali people.

Responding to fears that is currently making rounds that India is preparing to impose restriction on export of consumer items including cement and other manufacturing equipments to Nepal, Prachanda said that these are mere rumours only.

"If the supply of consumer and other essential items from India is affected at this crucial period, then it would have a long-term impact on Nepal-India relationship," Prachanda said.

He also informed that during discussion with the European Union including many other foreign countries, he avowed his commitment towards the peace process, multiparty democracy and economic development. nepalnews.com ag Apr 17 08
