Hey everone,

I just graduated last semester and have an EAD OPT card from DHS. To maintain status, I have taken help from the indian consultancy but i am trying to apply for a factory labor job with my opt card for survival. The problem is, if they do e-verify, will it be ok with the opt card? Ajkal jhuto bolera america ko nagarik bhanyo bhane e verify garda thaha paucha.

Anyone who have experiences on this kind of situations, please englighten me...

Thanks
Sirus_me

"You're right but to survive, you have to do whatever you need to do."

Hey Kid, why don't you go back to Nepal? You don't need to be here illegally. Just because you came to the US for education doesn't mean you have to break the law for 'survival.'

@dyamn: Thankx for your help dude but tell it as a coincidence or my luck, i got a short term job which is better than working as a labor. Once again, thankx for your support.

@jedimaster: Don't try to act like ur a police commissioner a$$hole. I know you worked your ass off on gas station while going to school or still doing that for low wage trying to lick dhoti's ass but instead of that i did pay taxes though it was unethical. So don't try to act smart and act like you finished your school without doing any illegal jobs. Face it, Nepal is one of the poorest country in the world so unless you're a son of corrupt neta, you don't have money to pay for your expenses. Got it bitch??????????

Damn JD, why such nonsense man? Typical Nepali attitude. Whatever Sirus does is none of your fkn business dude. Don't judge others on how they act. Mind your own fkn business.

Sirus_me, I'd strongly urge you NOT to take such a foolish step. None of my buddies have found any jobs. Some are working in Gas stations, some in Front Desks and some in pizza places. You'll be fine. The Federal govt. has got all sorts of things to worry about, they won't be coming after us.

By the way, what was your major? What about the Indian Consultancy?

Sirius_me,

"I just graduated last semester and have an EAD OPT card from DHS. To maintain status, I have taken help from the indian consultancy but i am trying to apply for a factory labor job with my opt card for survival. The problem is, if they do e-verify, will it be ok with the opt card?"

Fist of all it's not DHS, it's USCIS....r u on 12 months OPT or OPT extension? If u r on 12 months OPT, ask for a Offer Letter from them to reflect that u r working in ur field of study..if they r not willing to give it don't take a chance..These days USCIS r tightening up everything so it may not matter at this time but if u file H1B or GC in the future, it will screw up everything..So be careful

However, if u r trying to work on 17 months OPT, it also has to be in ur field of study..If they r willing to give u an offer letter (With ur field of Study), then The company which is giving u  a Job has to be E-Verified..E-verify doesn't mean that u need to be US Citizen...It's a System to ensure that the person in question has appropriate work authorisatrion(be it EAD-OPT or EAD)....

And one more note: Volunteer(Without pay is not going to maintain ur Staus in 17 months Extension)

And don't even bother to go for Indian Consultacny. they will suck ur Blood//

"You'll be fine. The Federal govt. has got all sorts of things to worry about, they won't be coming after us"

They will come after u esp during this recession...They r getting worried that unemployment rate has skyrocketed..IF they don't come right after u, they will haunt you when u file H1B or GC...Working odd Jobs on cash during F-1 is fine (that's what i feel), once u come in work authorization status  don't even think abt it ..Broda, u have to plan for the future..

well my subject of study is healthcare and i am seeing a growing trend in increase of indian consultancy sort of set up in these industries. I am not sure how this will impact Nepalis but they are importing nurses, physical therapist and occupational therapist directly from india, phillipines and helping them sponser their h1. I think they can petition for it themselves but i am sure there is a cut for them. But I am not in the extreme end as the gentleman above. I think desperation can push one to grab on to which ever solution comes first.

Quagmire,

I understand..But it's ur shot on which field u wanna go.. Try for Business  Analyst Job...Dhotis Normally train PPL in BA jobs,Since u have a GC with a degree in Finance take a training with them, u will have hell lot of bargaining power than us and u don't have to worry abt status..Don't sign any contract with them...Once u get a Job u can always kick their ass..

Yeah bro. Tara I don't know anything about Consultancies. One of my buddies worked for an IT company ( he graduated with a degree in Finance and International business ) for a year and he was telling me that the pay was great tara its not the pay that I'm thinking of. If they can give me a breakthrough, then why not?

Where do I start? Are there any dhoti consultancies in Bay area?

I was just gonna suggest that. I see ads for BA in finance, accounting and banking firms all the time. but nowadays the indian companies are asking for $$ to train as it looks like they have out sourced their trainings. But the downside is that all the Business Analyst position asks for experience of more than 3 years and a lot of IT background. Of course they will train u to tweak your resume and interview prep if its in your alley..

Well, I don't have a strong academic background and neither do I have any great working experience ( related to my field ). Personal problems hindered my academic front and have affected my GPA severely.
On a brighter side, I don't need to worry about maintaining my status but I don't wanna sit back and relax just because I don't need to worry abt H-1 and all that. I wish to move forward.

Someone suggested a site called guru or something....I guess I'll give sulekha.com a shot too.

@pyaradeshibasiharu: Thanks for your support pyaradeshi. I really appreciate it. Well the good news is i got a job offer for short term project through indian consultancies so i don't have to work factory jobs for now.  My major is mechanical engineering but I would be working as the Quality Analyst. Though i hate to work through them but like i said, you gotta do what you gotta do.

@Quagmire: I can recommend you my consultancy. Also, since you're a GC holder,  you're way above than us and will get the job easily, just shoot me an email, I may be able to help you out....

Quag, i've noticed that these Indian consultancies don't like to hire people with papers cuz they won't be able to manupulate. be careful on their contract terms.
