Hello Sajha basi s,

My brother is coming to US to begin his undergraduate this fall. I am supporting most of his tuition so he does not need to carry USD from Nepal to here. My question is whether he would still need a No Objection Letter from the Ministry of Education in Nepal? Would he get in any trouble at the airport while leaving the country because he does not have a stamp in his passport or something like that? Please let me know.

Thanks!

One of my buddies recently renewed his visa and he didn't bother to submit it. In all honesty, I don't know who set the trend.

I think it depends on Nepal immigration person. At least NOL banaye ko paisa desh ko income ta huncha, haina ra?

make sure you do it.I nearly got in trouble a year back when i forgot to carry NOL.The guys in Nepalese immigration will try to give hard time and take money from him. Most of 'em will try to do that.
I got lucky coz when i was about to get in trouble one of the nice guy around  who worked there let me go though i didn't have NOL.
Ask your brother to have one to not have any hassle during the last hour.

The rule states that, any Nepali willing to study abroad must obtain No Objection Certificate from Ministry of Education as the The Education Act. It is a law not a trend.

It is up to you to decide if you want to follow the law of the land or to igonre it. Do not blame the immigration officials if your brother is asked for it by them. You play by the rule.

Airport people in the airport may ask for it (That dikchead asked with me, not several of my friends). Many students don't even know that there is this NOL thing.

Get someone else's no-objection letter, scan it, replace original name with  your brother's and print it. They have no means to verify whether it is genuine or fake! There is no point throwing several thousands for that sheet while you got into a college with  your own efforts. You still have a choice to get a "REAL" one if this sounds too bad idea !

It is surprising to see some of the suggestions.

We so called anti corruption headed new generation are suggesting faking it and not to make the real one. We Nepali people should see at what we ouselves are doing.

@ janawar.. do you think you did right thing by not following the law? And you are blaming the immigration officials because they checked it? They have every right to check it, they are doing their job. They can do random search. No one can guarantee searching every single one passing through the gate but it is within their right to ask for it.

And as per my understanding, it does not cost thousands but about 6/7 hundred and is preety straight forward. You fill the form today and you will get it back the same day in the evening or the next day. Even if it is costly and difficult to achieve it, you must because it is the law of the land. Every country has its own way of doing things and that must be respected. These processes are there for a reason. We Nepali are so quick to blame others rather than watching our own deed. It is about being honest to yourself.

Truly disheartended to see the attitude of our generation, it will be too late for our country if it has to wait for next generation to make any substantial change.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I have decided to ask my brother to make the No objection Letter. It would take a day but I think it is good to have it in the long run since he might face issues in future Nepal visit as well. Once again, I really appreciate your responses. Have a good day!

I dont think it is a must if you dont have to send money in dollars from nepal to ur brother. Even I came in last august without NOC, and I dint face any problem there or even here. I did this bcoz even  ppl in Education Ministry dont know whether NOC is necessary or not and in what conditions it is required.
