Human Beings in many ways are like cultural batteries. We carry a cultural charge within us. When we associate with other Nepalese, this charge, this spark becomes brighter. And the longer we stay away from our culture, our people, the charge, becomes weaker and weaker.

When I participate in Nepali festivals, or visit Nepal or associate with friends and relatives, I always find that my batteries are re-charged. What is there within us that gets re-charged by this experience?

In the same way that many animals direct themselves by using the Earth's magnetic field:
Bioelectromagnetism is an aspect of all living things, including all plants and animals. Some animals have acute bioelectric sensors, and others, such as migratory birds, are believed to navigate in part by orienteering with respect to the Earth's magnetic field. Also, sharks are more sensitive to local interaction in electromagnetic fields than most humans. Other animals, such as the electric eel, are able to generate large electric fields outside their bodies.

In the same way that many animals direct themselves by using the Earth's magnetic field, it seems us humans direct ourselves by using our Cultural magnetic field. In other words the culture that is programmed within us in our childhood and while we are growing up. We use this cultural magentic field to direct ourself through life.

They did a study where they found that there was a co-relationship between Japanese who adapted in America and consequently lost their language and culture and heart disease. They found that those who lost their language and culture were a lot more stressed and susceptible to heart disease. "The group that was most acculturated to Western culture had a three- to five-fold excess in CHD prevalence. "

I was reading Homeyji's comments from this thread. He seems to be describing the charging and discharging experience of the cultural battery within us:

It is like Nepal, my relatives, my childhood friends, the neighborhoods I grew up around, the smell and taste of Nepal, all these things are like magnets. And within me, are pieces of iron. And when I go to associate with all the above places in Nepal, then the iron in me starts to fuse together. And the fused iron within me starts to get polarized by associating with the outside magnet (all the familiar places of my childhood).
So it is almost like the outside magnet has the power to turn my inner magnet on. This is when I am at my motivational best.

On the other hand, the longer I am living in America, my inside magnet is no longer associated with the outside magnet. Why? Because all the stimulus from my childhood is in Nepal. And so my inner magnet gets weaker and weaker. Gradually my inner magnet starts to disintegrate into iron pieces. And in the course of running around all over the place and associating with all kinds of people and identifying with so many activities I feel I have to do, the iron pieces are jostled all around and spread out within me.

I feel this is when I lose motivation and am at my motivational worst.
